Director Griffiths stated <br />he would soon be hearing a proposal from a disabled group who would like to <br />have Herkner Pool open year round. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Davis referred to the tennis survey which was recently mailed <br />out to the the Commissioners. He noted that the cities that charge for their' <br />facilities also have a pro shop which can collect the fees. He said the <br />survey was informative and felt it was interesting to see what other cities <br />offer. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Mortensen inquired about the condition of the grass at Bechet <br />and Griffin ballfields. Director Griffiths said he would speak to staff <br />regarding this matter. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Howard inquired about the itinerary of the 4th of July parade. <br />The Commissioners are in the Second Division, Position 48, and will line up <br />on Howland Street at 9:30am. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Howard encouraged all the Commissioners to attend the budget <br />hearings. The next one will be on Monday, June 29 at 7:30pm at the Main <br />Library. Commissioner Howard reported she was in New York over Memorial Day <br />and visited some cemeteries at the request of Nita Spangler. She took <br />pictures and obtained information for Mrs. Spangler which will be used to <br />assist in the reconstruction of the Union Cemetery soldier statue. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Swope asked that a letter be sent to Jane Light congratulating <br />the Redwood City Library on being honored as Library of the Year. <br /> <br />MIS Swope/Truscelli: That a letter be sent to Jane Light congratulating <br />the Redwood City Library on being honored as <br />Library of the Year. <br /> <br />Motion passed. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Swope asked that a letter of commendation be sent to Russ <br />Dorfman thanking him for the donation of food and his participation at the <br />Union Cemetery project. <br /> <br />-Landscape Gardener Mike Gibbons told the Commission he was approached by <br />some children at Fleishman Park who requested that a basketball court be <br />installed at the Fleishman. Director Griffiths indicated this project would <br />qualify as a Capital Improvement Project due to the costs involved but there <br />are currently no funds in the budget for this project. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Nordness said he attended a Little League Challenger baseball <br />game at Selby School recently. The baseball game was sponsored by the <br />Highlanders Little League and was enjoyed very much by the participants. <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was adjourned at <br />9:03pm to be reconvened at 7:30pm on Wednesday, July 22, 1992, to be held at <br />the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, <br />California. <br /> <br /> <br />.'.
