<br /> <br />. <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br />Director Griffiths said there has been a great response to the RFP and the <br />firms interested are well qualified and have lots of experience in designing <br />recreation centers. He requested one or two of the Park and Recreation <br />Commissioners participate on the interview board to be held on Thursd~, <br />November 5. Commissioners Howard and Swope volunteered to participate. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - Budget Update <br /> <br />Director Griffiths said he would be attending a budget meeting on August 27 <br />with the City Manager and other department heads to review budget cuts that <br />would have to be made citywide in order to meet the State budget crisis. He <br />said the estimated cuts for the City of Redwood City could be between <br />$800,000 and $1.3 million over a 1-2 year period. Director Griffiths said he <br />would know more details next month and would communicate them to the <br />Commission. Chairperson Slusser was concerned about the cuts to be made to <br />programs and services offerred by the Department and the impact this will <br />have on the community. He felt the Park and Recreation Commission should <br />communicate these cuts to the public in some manner and that the Commission <br />would need to become more sensitive to the community.s loss in services. <br />Commissioner Howard suggested notifying the public through notices sent in <br />their monthly utility bills. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - Joint City/Belmont School District Update <br /> <br />Director Griffiths said he spoke recently with Joseph Fruhwirth of the <br />Belmont School District regarding this project. Mr. Fruhwirth said the <br />school district has formed an advisory group to begin looking at alternatives <br />to handle their increasing entrollment. The alternatives are to renovate the <br />Cipriani school site, install portables on all school sites, or to build a <br />new school in Redwood Shores. Director Griffiths said Don Warren of Redwood <br />Shores Inc. has quoted a sale price of $875,000 for the 1.25 acre parcel and <br />he has advised Mr. Fruhwirth of the price. Director Griffiths said he will <br />keep the Commission advised of any further information he receives on this <br />project. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - Joint Meeting with City Council <br /> <br />Chairperson Slusser noted that in the minutes of the August 17 City Council <br />meeting, Vice Mayor Bury mentioned having a joint meeting with the Park and <br />Recreation Commission on October 5. The Commissioners discussed this date <br />and felt they needed more time to prepare for the meeting and requested that <br />Director Griffiths ask for a November meeting date. <br /> <br />ITEM 5 - Shannon W~ Pl~ground <br /> <br />Director Griffiths said he attended a GID meeting on August 25 at which time <br />the 92-93 projects were re-priqritized. Unfortunately. the Shannon W~ <br />Playground project was deferred indefinitely due to limited funds. <br /> <br />ITEM 6 - Formalize 92-93 Objectives <br /> <br />Chairperson Slusser recommended that each Commissioner draft a list of their <br />top 3 priority items for the 92-93 fiscal year, taking into effect the <br />information received from Director Griffiths tonight. He said this <br />information would be gathered and formalized and would be used at the joint <br /> <br />
