&

.

meeting with the City Council. Commissioner Swope said she would reproduce
information the Commission had developed a few years ago regarding the
Commission1s strategic goals.

M/S Davis/Swope: Recommend that a sub-committee be formed to gather
information in preparation for a presentation at the
September Commission meeting.

Motion passed.

Commissioners Davis and Howard volunteered to be on the sub-committee.
The Commissioners were asked to have their recommendations into the
Department by September 11 for Commissioner Davis to pick up.

The Commissioners agreed to change their September meeting date from
Wednesday, September 23 to Monday, September 21.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

-Commissioner Davis said he spoke with Management Analyst Ramon Aguilar who
has been working on the pricing of dog exercise areas at four sites. He
asked that this item be placed on the September agenda.

.-Commissioner Hordness said Redwood City International has been notified that
the Chinese delegation would like to send a group of artists to Redwood City
for a cultural exchange within the next 3-4 months. There is a possibility
the artists would be selling some of their paintings during their visit.
He also mentioned Redwood City International made a presentation before the
Civic Cultural Commission during July and the Cultural Commission has agreed
to endorse the concept of Redwood City International and to provide their
support of their program.

MONTHLY REPORTS

-Commissioner Truscelli said" she has visited many of our parks and tennis
courts this Summer and has found them to be well used. She mentioned the new
Kiwanis field looks beautiful. She said she also attended the 5th Annual
Project Read BBQ and Awards Ceremony on August 15.

-Commissioner Davis wanted to recognize Mike Blondino.s efforts in raising
over $3,000 for the Gabriel Fund which provides scholarships and equipment
for youth programs.

-Commissioner Howard said she attended the Redwood City Night at the Giants
on July 31. She also explained a problem she has observed at Hawes Field
where many softball players bring their dogs to the park and tie them up
while they play softball. The dogs bark, howl, and are disruptive to the
softball game in addition to scaring the children in attendance. She asked
if the umpires could be given the authority to remove players from the game
while they brought their dogs home. Director Griffiths will speak with
Supervisor Bill Wooten to see what could be done to resolve this problem.

-Commissioner Howard noted the Fall Park and Recreation brochure looked much
thinner. She also requested a thank you letter be sent to the person who
provided the car for the Commission to use in the 4th of July parade.
