Director Griffiths <br />said there is a concern over the timing of the project because the site will <br />have to be cleaned up by work furlough before it will be able to be used by <br />the public. He suggested waiting until Spring to do the clean up and install <br />the necessary materials at the site. Director Griffiths said a letter would <br />be written to the San Francisco Water Department with our request and <br />homeowners in the area would be contacted before the trial period begins. <br />Vice Chairperson Davis thanked Mr. Aguilar for all his work on this project. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - Red Morton Center RFP Update <br /> <br />Director Griffiths announced that 13 RFPs were received on the Red Morton <br />Center and the interviews with prospective firms have been moved to <br />November 18. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - Budget Update <br /> <br />Director Griffiths said after attending numerous budget meetings, it appears <br />the Department could be affected by either a 2% or 4% budget reduction. The <br />City Manager will be returning from vacation this week and will be reviewing <br />the proposed budget cuts for each department. Director Griffiths said that <br />on September 30 and October 1, the Department Heads would be working on the <br />City.s budget priorities and estimated the City Council budget hearings would <br />begin October 19. He said the total budget cut to the City was $1,017,000. <br />He also noted that San Mateo County has indicated they may cut funding <br />provided to Fair Oaks Community Center. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - Joint City/Belmont School District Update <br /> <br />Director Griffiths said a committee consisting of Belmont and Redwood Shores <br />residents has been formed by the Belmont School District to assist in making <br />a decision on handling their increased enrollment. He said the alternatives <br />are to re-open an old school, install portable school rooms on each school <br />site, or build a new school in Redwood Shores. He said the committee was <br />scheduled to meet this month for the first time. <br /> <br />ITEM 5 - Formalize 92-93 Objectives <br /> <br />Vice Chairperson Davis said he and Commissioner Howard had met to formulate a <br />list of prioritized objectives based on the information provided to them by <br />the Commissioners. He noted that the priorities listed by each Commissioner <br />were very similar. Due to the Department.s budgetary problems, it was <br />suggested that perhaps a fund raising campaign should be established to <br />assist in supporting park and recreation programs. Commissioner Swope said <br />the Peninsula Community Foundation is a Burlingame-based organization which <br />provides grants for community-oriented projects and said she would contact <br />them for information regarding their grant process. She also volunteered to <br />write a proposal to the foundation on behalf of the Commission. The <br />Commissioners discussed various methods of raising funds and Vice Chairperson <br />Davis said he would work on prioritizing the Commissioners. lists and asked <br />that they bring their fund raising ideas to the next meeting. <br /> <br />Director Griffiths said Councilman Bury has asked to have a joint City <br />Council and Park and Recreation Commission Study Session on November 2. <br />Due to scheduling conflicts, the Commissioners indicated they would be unable <br />to meet with the Council on that date and suggested meeting with them in <br />January or February 1993. <br /> <br />
