She attended the Sunflower Festival in <br />September and received comments from many people who would like to see this <br />event continue. Commissioner Truscelli said there will be a Halloween parade <br />on October 30 for the Intergenerational Program with students from John Gill <br />School. She also mentioned the hot meal program at the Senior Center is <br />a great success with the addition of the new cook. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Nordness said he received an application for the IICommittment <br />to Excellence 1992 Awardsll sponsored by CPRS. The awards are for excellence <br />in facility design, park planning, and recreation programs. He asked whether <br />we had any particular park or program which should be nominated. This matter <br />will be placed on the December agenda. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Nordness noted the City Council has endorsed Redwood City <br />International and its Sister City program with the people of Zhuhai, China. <br />He said the cultural art display and television programming have been set up <br />for late February-early March. He also noted the death of William Penn Mott <br />who was the former National Director of Parks. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Swope reported Ramon Aguilar is putting together all the <br />information gathered for the Union Cemetery plan. She said she called the <br />Peninsula Community Foundation regarding grants and noted there is an <br />excellent resource book available entitled IIGu;de of California Foundationsll <br />at a cost of $50.00. She will call the Mervyn Morris Foundation to find out <br />about their grant process. Commissioner Swope said she attended the Library <br />Celebration Party this month and mentioned Library Director Jane Light1s <br />wonderful speech where she praised her staff1s accomplishments. <br /> <br />-The Commissioners were given an update on the status of Kiwanis Field by <br />Secretary Monroe as per instructions from Supervisor Wooten. There are a few <br />minor things remaining that are currently being corrected by the contractor. <br />The only major concern is the overhead on the backstops which is being worked <br />on but everything will be ready for Little League season. The fences will <br />remain up until late January or early February under the agreement of the <br />little league and soccer groups. <br /> <br />-Superintendent Hartman said she received a letter from the Sequoia Awards <br />group which will be honoring the outstanding citizen, company and high school <br />youth. She has an application for the award and will be sending one to each <br />of the Commissioners should they care to nominate someone. <br /> <br />-A copy of a letter was given to each Commissioner from Ramon Aguilar to the <br />San Francisco Water Department requesting use of some land on the Hetch <br />Hetchy as a dog exercise area. Superintendent Hartman said it was brought to <br />her attention the need for fencing at the site because it could be a <br />liability problem to the City. She asked if the cost to establish the <br />site included fencing. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Nordness asked if it has ever been considered to have a <br />IIComrnissioner of the Yearn award at the annual City Council Boards and <br />Commissions Dinner. <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was adjourned at <br />8:55pm to be reconvened at 7:30pm on Wednesday, December 2, 1992 at the <br />Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, <br />California. <br /> <br />
