<br />, <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br />. <br />) <br /> <br />I ' <br /> <br />a Cultural Resources Management Plan while approving the conceptual idea of a <br />pilot project to be completed at the cemetery. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - Presentation of Management Plan Outline - Chairperson Davis <br /> <br />Chairperson Davis reviewed and explained his Union Cemetery Management Plan <br />Outline which covered the following points: (1) Preface; (2) Introduction; <br />(3) Recognition and Acknowledgements; (4) Historical Context;(5) Description; <br />(6) Vision; (7) Management; and (8) Appendices. Chairperson Davis asked for <br />any comments regarding the Management Plan Outline to be in by July 9, 1993. <br />All written comments are to be returned to Analyst Ramon Aguilar. <br /> <br />Commissioners Nordness, Slusser and Swope praised Chairperson Dav;sls visual, <br />oral and written presentation of the proposed Management Plan Outline. <br />- Chairperson Davis responded to and clarified questions from the audience <br />regarding policies (guidelines and criteria), long term commitment to Union <br />Cemetery, vandalism and security. <br /> <br />Consensus of the Commission was to proceed with development of the Cultural <br />Resources Management Plan using Chairperson Davis1s Management Plan Outline. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - Historic Union Cemetery Association, Inc. <br /> <br />John Edmonds, speakîng'on behalf of the Historic Union Cemetery Association, <br />Inc. (HUCA), introduced some of the founding members of the newly formed <br />non-profit corporation and they were: Shirley Masters (Redwood City Heritage <br />Association), F.G. Hutchinson (Archives Committee), Bob Wallace (Native Sons <br />of the Golden West), Vince Torres (Native Sons of the Golden West), Nathalie <br />D. Westwood (Daughters of the American Revolution), Lou Davol; (Independent <br />Order of Oddfellows), Jean Cloud (Historic Resources Advisory Committee, <br />Archieves Committee, Daughters of the American Revolution), and Helen Graves <br />(Historic Resources Advisory Committee, Archives Committee, Association for <br />Gravestone Studies). <br /> <br />Mr. Edmonds explained that the first organizational meeting of the HUCA was <br />in October 1992, incorporation papers submitted to the State of California in <br />November 1992, and incorporation papers approved by the State in March 1993. <br />Shortly thereafter, representatives from HUCA met w1th the City Manager. <br />Since that meeting with the City Manager, HUCA has been before the Historic <br />Resources Advisory Committee and now are appearing before the Parks and <br />Recreation Commission. Mr. Edmonds said that ideally, HUCA would like Union <br />cemetery to become a memorial park where children can learn past history of <br />Redwood City and would become a local historical resource. HUCA supports the <br />Cooley Fence Plot Restoration Project and is preparing a guidebook for local <br />schools to use in the classroom. <br /> <br />ITEM 5 - Cooley Plot Fence Restoration Project <br /> <br />Vince Torres informed the Commission that he has been familiar with Union <br />Cemetery since he was 5 years old and views his proposal as a method to tlmake <br />it look like it1s being cared forll, which hopefully would result in less <br />vandalism at the cemetery in the future. Prior to commencing work, he would <br />present a Work Plan with a step-by-step description of what he plans to do <br />to the Historic Resources Advisory Committee and staff at the Parks, <br />Recreation and Community Services Department for technical specifications <br /> <br />. <br />reVlew. <br /> <br />
