<br />. <br /> <br />r'" Þ ~ <br /> <br />\ <br /> <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />Minutes of Wednesday, November 17,1993 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: <br /> <br />Chairperson Davis, Commissioners <br />Howard, Morton, Nordness, Swope and <br />Truscell; <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: <br />GUESTS PRESENT: <br /> <br />Commissioner Slusser <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: <br /> <br />Mary letzrîng <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Superintendent <br />Sally Hartman, Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order <br />at 7:35pm by Chairperson Don Davis in Room 1 of the Community Activities <br />Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The October minutes were approved as mailed. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />-The Commissioners received a flyer announcing the grand opening of the Art <br />Center on Saturday, November 20 from 10:00am to 5:00pm with the rubbon <br />cutting ceremony to be held from 1:00-2:00pm. Superintendent Hartman brought <br />an article from todayls Redwood City Tribune concerning the new art center. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - Sequoia Gem and Mineral Sub-Committee Update <br /> <br />Commissioner Truscelli reported the sub-committee consisting of herself, <br />Commissioner Slusser, Recreation Center Supervisor Jan Knight, and Preston <br />Bingham, Jim Knepher and Burl Jackson, representing the Sequoia Gem and <br />Mineral Society, met on Thursday, November 4. She said the meeting was very <br />productive and many issues were discussed. SGMS representatives were asked <br />to supply their needs to operate the lapidary shop, such as water, <br />electricity and square footage for their equipment. They said it would take <br />them a short time to get together the necessary information and would get <br />back to the sub-committee within a few days. Commissioner Truscelli reported <br />that as of today, SGMS representatives have still not provided the <br />information to Supervisor Jan Knight. <br /> <br />Commissioner Truscelli said she was surprised to hear that little House in <br />Menlo Park also has a lapidary shop. Superintendent Hartman confirmed that <br />little House was very interested in having the SGMS group re-locate to their <br />site but that SGMS rejected the site because they felt it was too small. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - letzring MelOrial Update <br /> <br />Commissioner Nordness reported that he, Commissioner Howard, George Blondino, <br />and Gerry Letzring1s sister, Judy, met to discuss the proposed memorial. He <br />said the committee suggested naming the Kiwanis-Mitchell Field complex after <br />Gerry, putting his name on the two scoreboards, and have the dedication of <br />the memorial on the opening day of Little League on April 9. 1994. <br />Commissioner Nordness showed several pictures of the Red Morton Memorial and <br /> <br />
