..

..

MONTHLY REPORTS

.

The monthly reports for February will be sent in next month's packet.

MATTERS OF COMMISSION INTEREST

-Director Griffiths announced that due to amendments to the Brown Act
which will be effective April 1, 1994, the format for "Matters of Commission
Interest" will change. The amendments will prohibit "discussion" of items
not appearing on the agenda, whereas before "action" items were the only
items that needed to be on the agenda. A copy of a letter from the City
Attorney to the City Council describing the amendments in detail will be sent
to the Commissioners to help describe how "Matters of Commission InterestU
will be handled. All Commissioners with items to be discussed under
"Matters of Commission Interest" will need to notify the Chairperson in
advance of the agenda preparation to have the matters included in the
meeting.

-Commissioner Slusser said he received an entry application to the 4th of July
Parade from the Peninsula Celebration Association and asked that this matter
be placed on the April agenda.

-Commissioner Nordness brought an article from the San Mateo Times dated
March 2 regarding the Millbrae Lions paying for the renovation of Millbrae
school playing fields in exchange for the use of the fields. He thought perhaps
other non-profit or Fraternal organizations in Redwood City might be
interested in doing the same thing in our town. He also brought in recreation
brochures from other cities on the Peninsula for the Commissioners' review.
Director Griffiths mentioned that our department would require additional
funds to produce a larger brochure. He also said that previously our
department produced a larger brochure which included City-wide
information from other departments but that it was removed from our
budget. This information is now produced in a separate newsletter issued by
the City Manager's Office.

-Commissioner Howard said the five designs for the new City Hall are on
display at the Library along with public input request sheets. The formal
presentations from the five architectural firms will be made on Saturday,
March 26 at 9:00-3:00pm at the Old Library and the public is encouraged to
attend.

-Park Supervisor Gibbons mentioned that a family in Redwood Shores has
purchased a plaque and a tree to be planted at Marlin Park in memory of
Jamie Ellison. The plaque and tree will be installed near the new play
equipment and is planned to be installed over Easter break when the children
are out of schooL
