<I

.

.

t

4

.

.

~

paper for the brochure and Commissioner Morton's company will donate the
printing.
Don Saye commented on the use of the term "shortfall" in the letter inviting
the public to attend this evening's meeting. He said he read this letter to the
board of the Optimists Club and was asked to attend this meeting to see how
their group could participate in the fundraising effort. He suggested the fund
raising committee have a booth at the Climate Best Fest and also at the 4th of
July Festival. Ginny Hughes volunteered to help participate in the booths.

It was discussed that donation checks should be made payable to the IIRed
Morton Community Center Fund" and have the notation of IIdonation"
written on the face of the check. Superintendent Hartman said the City
Attorney has stated that donations to the City can be a tax deduction.

Paula Uccelli suggested sending a letter to the many users of the Center
including people who have taken classes there. Councilwoman LaBerge said
the mailing could be used as a fund raiser and a "friend raiser" to let people
know about the project. Ira Ruskin felt people need to understand all the
benefits the Center will have to the community, City, region and County. He
felt newsworthy items needed to be created to establish an on-going media
relationship. Mr. Ruskin volunteered to help with this committee.

Don Saye volunteered to help with the pasta dinner sponsored by
Commissioner Truscelli. . Councilwoman Howard suggested tapping into the
youth at the middle schools and high schools because we need their help and
buy-in on the project. Ginny Hughes volunteered to help contact the high
schools. Councilwoman Buchan said she spoke with Heidi VanZant of the
San Mateo Times about the project and suggested offering tours of the facility
to all newspapers. Commissioner Slusser felt that we should not overlook
videos being used in selling the project. Ira Ruskin felt that youth
involvement with the fund raising could be turned into a good pub lie
relations tool. Don Saye suggested having booths at the Climate Best Fest and
the 4th of July Festival manned with youth sports teams such as soccer and
softb all.

Mr. Ruskin suggested a ground breaking ceremony or some such event to
help kick off the fundraising. Supervisor Hannon suggested perhaps a "roof
raising" ceremony. Other groups suggested to contact would be the Boy
Scouts, Girl Scouts, DeMo lay, Eastern Star, Rainbow Girls, Masons, Rebeccahs,
Campfire. Councilwoman Howard volunteered to help co-chair the
Community Gifts committee with Commissioner Truscelli.

Chairperson Swope felt there should be a general meeting of all the
committee chairpersons which was tentatively set up for March 1. Sign-up
sheets were sent around the audience for the various committees.
