Commissioner Davis suggested <br />taking a field II au t of service II for a period of time to allow it time to "rest" <br />and having the soccer groups provide manual labor to help maintain the <br />fields. <br /> <br />ITEM 1- RED MORTON CENTER UPDATE <br /> <br />-Fund Raising Efforts <br />The Commissioners reviewed a report from Supervisor Julie Hannon with <br />an update on the Red Morton Fundraising Efforts. Her report indicated that <br />between $24,535.00 and $27,034.00 has been collected so far, although this <br />amount does not include the funds collected from the Halloween Dinner <br />Auction event. In addition, over 135 pavers and 30 hand tiles have been sold. <br /> <br />Commissioner Hughes presented Chairperson Swope with a letter and a <br />check representing the proceeds from the Halloween Dinner Auction event. <br />Chairperson Swope read the letter which announced that the event brought <br />in $11,861.44 plus a $2,500 pledge from Bay Area Bank (total $14,436.44). In <br />addition, one more check for $75.00 will be collected shortly. Commissioner <br />Hughes stated the event was held with "no expenses" because all of the food <br />was donated by local restaurants and the raffle gifts were donated by local <br />businesses. Commissioner Hughes said the event's success was due to lots of <br />community support and she thanked everyone for their support including <br />the Event Committee, Director Peter Griffiths, and Secretary Denise Monroe. <br />Chairperson Swope said including the money from the Halloween Event and <br />the pledge from Bay Area Bank, the total amount of funds raised for the Red <br />Morton Project was now $36,471.44. Director Griffiths and Chairperson <br />Swope each expressed their appreciation to Ginny and Pete Hughes for their <br />hard work on the Halloween event. Commissioner Hughes invited the <br />Commissioners to attend Irish Night on March 13, 1996 at 6:00pm at Pete's <br />Harbor to benefit Kainos and tickets are $20.00 each. <br /> <br />The Commissioners discussed approaching various businesses for grants and <br />the fact that most do not make grant for capital expenditures but would <br />consider grants for educational programs. The Commissioners discussed how <br />they could approach businesses to fund on-going educational programs in the <br />future. Commissioner Davis suggested the Commission hold a <br />brainstorming session to evaluate the fundraising process for the Red Morton <br />Project in order to determine what was successful and what was not for future <br />endeavors. <br /> <br />Director Griffiths said funds remaining in the Red Morton furnishings budget <br />may be available to purchase items on the Wish List.
