.

--

4

..

(

T

Park & Recreation Commission \ I
Minutes of June 2lJ, 1996 ..

"-

Page 2

'.'

ITEM 2 - PARK INSPECTION ASSIGNMENTS

~,

i:

Chairperson Truscelli distributed the sign-up list for the park inspection
assignments. The Commissioners made their selections and will be mailed a
copy of the final park assignment list for their reference. Superintendent
Seleznow reminded them that their inspection sheets become the basis for
maintenance actions by the park staff. The Commissioners requested that
staff's responses be noted on the inspection forms, and that they be returned
to the Commissioners so they could see what had been accomplished.

ITEM 3 - B UOG ET UPO ATE

Superintendent Seleznow made a brief report on the budget hearings, and
summarized the Council's actions of June 24, 1996. He noted that the Council
had made no reductions in the Parks, Recreation and Community Services
Department budget. Commissioner Slusser remarked that Director Griffiths
showed great restraint when he didn't ask for additional staff.

Commissioner Swope asked about the Lido Landscape budget and was
reminded that Lido was the newly developing area east of the power lines in
Redwood Shores. She also sought more information on objective #2 on page
202, the nature of the Advisory Council Support on page 205, and the move of
San Mateo County's Income Maintenance Division on Page 218.
Superintendent Seleznow said he would get answers to her questions from
appropriate staff and report back.

Commissioner Davis suggested that in the future all income from fees be
tracked with their programs in all cost centers. He also requested definitions
of the budget line items (e.g. supplies and services).

Commissioner Hughes stated her desire for a budget review session and also
wants to see the salary ranges for positions.

Commissioner Hughes also reported that on a recent trip to the Red Morton
Center she discovered a Mortal Kombat II video game machine in the teen
area, and doesn't think it appropriate for the Center. Superintendent
Seleznow said that he would have the appropriate staff come to the next
Commission meeting and report on the selection of this game.

Commissioner Hughes concluded by stating her desire for the Commission to
be more actively involved in the Teen Advisory Group and park
development process, especially where public meetings are concerned.

Commissioner Morton also stated his desire to see more details on the line
item for staffing.
