" PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 1997 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Truscelli, Commissioners Davis, Morton, Slusser and Swope CO MMISSI 0 NERS ABSENT: Commissioners Hughes and Nordness GUESTS PRESENT: Dave Anderson, Mary Beth NcMann STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Gary Hover The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairperson Pauline Truscelli at 7:30pm in Room 2 of the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the August meeting were approved as mailed. CORRESPONDENCE There was no coITespondence, The following item was taken out of order: ITEM 2 - SPECIAL OLYMPICS POWER LIFTING INVITATIONAL PRESENTATION Dave Anderson and Mary Beth McMann spoke on behalf of the Special Olympics Power Lifting Invitational to be held at the Red Morton Center on Saturday, October 4 from 8:30am-4:30pm. Mr. Anderson who is the coordinator for the event, thanked the Commission for the use of the facility and their support of this event, Ms. McMann spoke about the Special Olympics programs available in San Mateo County and stated there are 278 people registered County-wide in this program. The Commissioners were invited to attend this event with competition to begin at 9:30am. ITEM 1 - SUMMARY OF STAFFORD & STULSAFT PARK PUBLIC HEARINGS WITH MOORE, IACOFANO, GOLTSMAN, INC. (MIG) Superintendent Hover gave each of the Connnissioners a written summary of the successful public hearings held at Stafford and Stulsaft Parks on Saturday, September 13, 1997. Over 60 people attended the Stafford Park hearing and approximately 45 people attending the Stulsaft Park hearing. A list of desired elements to be incorporated into the design of each park were developed as a result of the hearings. Commissioner Swope said she was happy with the consultant and the community response. Commissioner Slusser asked for a conceptual timeline for the project to be developed to keep the public informed about the process. The Connnissioners were advised to forward any notes they took at the public hearings to Superintendent Hover and they will be forwarded to MIG. Commissioner Davis wanted to make sure that the issue of park safety be addressed in the park design due to the fact that many citizens expressed concern about this matter. Superintendent Hover will keep the Commission updated on this proj ect , < ,.
