<br />~ <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 1997 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Truscelli, Commissioners <br />Davis, Morton, Slusser and Swope <br /> <br />CO MMISSI 0 NERS ABSENT: <br /> <br />Commissioners Hughes and Nordness <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Dave Anderson, Mary Beth NcMann <br />STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Gary Hover <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by <br />Chairperson Pauline Truscelli at 7:30pm in Room 2 of the Community Activities <br />Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />The minutes of the August meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />There was no coITespondence, <br /> <br />The following item was taken out of order: <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - SPECIAL OLYMPICS POWER LIFTING INVITATIONAL <br />PRESENTATION <br /> <br />Dave Anderson and Mary Beth McMann spoke on behalf of the Special Olympics Power <br />Lifting Invitational to be held at the Red Morton Center on Saturday, October 4 from <br />8:30am-4:30pm. Mr. Anderson who is the coordinator for the event, thanked the <br />Commission for the use of the facility and their support of this event, Ms. McMann <br />spoke about the Special Olympics programs available in San Mateo County and stated <br />there are 278 people registered County-wide in this program. The Commissioners were <br />invited to attend this event with competition to begin at 9:30am. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - SUMMARY OF STAFFORD & STULSAFT PARK PUBLIC <br />HEARINGS WITH MOORE, IACOFANO, GOLTSMAN, INC. (MIG) <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover gave each of the Connnissioners a written summary of the <br />successful public hearings held at Stafford and Stulsaft Parks on Saturday, September 13, <br />1997. Over 60 people attended the Stafford Park hearing and approximately 45 people <br />attending the Stulsaft Park hearing. A list of desired elements to be incorporated into the <br />design of each park were developed as a result of the hearings. Commissioner Swope said <br />she was happy with the consultant and the community response. Commissioner Slusser <br />asked for a conceptual timeline for the project to be developed to keep the public <br />informed about the process. The Connnissioners were advised to forward any notes they <br />took at the public hearings to Superintendent Hover and they will be forwarded to MIG. <br />Commissioner Davis wanted to make sure that the issue of park safety be addressed in the <br />park design due to the fact that many citizens expressed concern about this matter. <br />Superintendent Hover will keep the Commission updated on this proj ect <br /> <br /> <br />, < <br /> <br />,. <br />
