<br /> <br />V' <br /> <br />Park & Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of Sep.tember 14, 1997 <br /> <br />,. <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL UPDATE <br /> <br />( <br />¡ <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover announced Assistant Recreation Center Supervisor Adilah Haqq- <br />Smith will attend the October Commission meeting to give an update on the progress of <br />the Youth Advisory Council. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - COMMITTEE UPDATES <br /> <br />-Fundraising for Maddux, StaffordlStulsaft Parks <br />Commissioner Slusser reported the fundraising booth at the Climate Best Fest was <br />successful. He felt that after the January Commission meeting we will have a better idea <br />of what amount of funding will be required for the project. It was noted that the Friends <br />of Maddux Park will be holding a flea market fundraiser on October 4. <br /> <br />-Adopt-A- Park <br />There was no report from the Adopt-A-Park Sub-Committee. <br /> <br />ITEM 5 - WORK PLAN GOALS FOR FY96-97 UPDATE <br /> <br />-Goal #1; Commissioner Swope reported that Commissioner Slusser has been writing an <br />article featuring one of our parks for the quarterly City-wide Recreation Brochure. <br />Commissioner Slusser suggested he might approach the San Mateo County Times about <br />putting pictures of one of our parks in their paper and offer a prize to someone who can <br />identify which park the picture is from. <br /> <br />-Goal #2; The park inventory was completed but the project was not completed; a copy of <br />Commissioner Nordness' s report on Goal #2 will be forwarded to the Commissioners. <br /> <br />-Goal #3; Chairperson Truscelli reported several of the Commissioners attended meetings <br />of the Senior Affairs and Civic Cultural Commission this past year. <br /> <br />The Commissioners discussed their FY96-97 goals and what they would like to see as <br />their FY97 -98 workplan goals. Superintendent Hover will review Council's FY97 -98 <br />goals and develop a list of task-oriented workplan goals for the October meeting. <br /> <br />ITEM 6 - DOG PARK UPDATE <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover reported he met with San Carlos Airport Manager Gary Peterson <br />and identified a piece of land in their clear zone as a site for a possible dog park. He also <br />visited the site with Mr. Anderlini. Superintendent Hover reported he also met with Don <br />Warren regarding a piece of land near SBSA as a possible site. Superintendent Hover <br />will continue to report on this matter to the Commission. <br /> <br />ITEM 7 - SUPERINTENDENT HOVER'S MONTHLY STAFF REPORT TO <br />DIRECTOR <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover reviewed the monthly report with the Commissioners and <br />answered questions. The Commissioners requested copies of the monthly Recreation and <br />Communi ty Services staff reports. <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was adjourned at 8:39pm to <br />be reconvened at 7:30pm on Wednesday, October 22,1997 to be held at the Community <br />Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br />
