.I Park"fl Recreation Commission Minutes of October 22, 1997 Page 3 Supervisor Haqq-Smith spoke about what other cities offer youth councils, the number of members, and the types of activities that they offer. Meetings of the Y AC are held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 6:30 to 7:30pm at the Red Morton Center and the Commissioners were invited to attend. Copies of the Y AC meeting minutes will be sent to the Park and Recreation Commissioners. Commissioner Davis asked the Y AC members what they would change if they could about our department. The responses were: -Too many rules at Teen Center -Should allow dogs in the parks -Should offer high school basketball league (will happen next Summer) -Teens don't know about the Park and Recreation Commission; education needed Commissioner Nordness suggested placing an article in the quarterly Recreation brochure to let people know about the Commission, what it does, and where to come with issues. It was also suggested that a representative from Y AC attend Park and Recreation Commission meetings once per quarter. ANNOUNCEMENTS -Commissioner Hughes thanked the staff at the Community Activities Building for their assistance with a Rotary/YMCA fundraising dinner held in the building on October16. They raised over $10,000.00. -Commissioner Davis commended the weekend Parks crew at Hoover Park for the fine and important job that they perform. He mentioned he invited a Sequoia Hospital walking club that meets at Hoover Park to attend a future Commission meeting. -Vice Chairperson Morton announced the 2nd Annual Art David Invitational Classic to be held at the Red Morton Center on December 5-7. He asked for volunteers to work the concession stand at the event and noted that sponsors are needed for the teams. Vice Chairperson Morton will be accepting a proclamation for this event from the City Counci I on November 3. -Manager Gibbons distributed tickets for "An Essence of Italy", a fundraising event to be held at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center on Saturday, November 8. Cost is $25.00 per person and proceeds benefit the Accessible Recreation Program. -The Commissioners decided to change their November meeting date from Wednesday, November 26 to Tuesday, November 25 due to Thanksgiving. The location and ti me wi II remai n the same. '.
