<br />.I <br /> <br />Park"fl Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of October 22, 1997 <br /> <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />Supervisor Haqq-Smith spoke about what other cities offer youth councils, the <br />number of members, and the types of activities that they offer. Meetings of the Y AC <br />are held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 6:30 to 7:30pm at <br />the Red Morton Center and the Commissioners were invited to attend. Copies of <br />the Y AC meeting minutes will be sent to the Park and Recreation Commissioners. <br /> <br />Commissioner Davis asked the Y AC members what they would change if they could <br />about our department. The responses were: <br /> <br />-Too many rules at Teen Center <br />-Should allow dogs in the parks <br />-Should offer high school basketball league (will happen next Summer) <br />-Teens don't know about the Park and Recreation Commission; education needed <br /> <br />Commissioner Nordness suggested placing an article in the quarterly Recreation <br />brochure to let people know about the Commission, what it does, and where to <br />come with issues. It was also suggested that a representative from Y AC attend Park <br />and Recreation Commission meetings once per quarter. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br />-Commissioner Hughes thanked the staff at the Community Activities Building for <br />their assistance with a Rotary/YMCA fundraising dinner held in the building on <br />October16. They raised over $10,000.00. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Davis commended the weekend Parks crew at Hoover Park for the <br />fine and important job that they perform. He mentioned he invited a Sequoia <br />Hospital walking club that meets at Hoover Park to attend a future Commission <br />meeting. <br /> <br />-Vice Chairperson Morton announced the 2nd Annual Art David Invitational Classic <br />to be held at the Red Morton Center on December 5-7. He asked for volunteers to <br />work the concession stand at the event and noted that sponsors are needed for the <br />teams. Vice Chairperson Morton will be accepting a proclamation for this event <br />from the City Counci I on November 3. <br /> <br />-Manager Gibbons distributed tickets for "An Essence of Italy", a fundraising event <br />to be held at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center on Saturday, November 8. Cost <br />is $25.00 per person and proceeds benefit the Accessible Recreation Program. <br /> <br />-The Commissioners decided to change their November meeting date from <br />Wednesday, November 26 to Tuesday, November 25 due to Thanksgiving. The <br />location and ti me wi II remai n the same. <br /> <br />'. <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was adjourned at <br />8:45pm to be reconvened at 7:3,Opm on Tuesday, November 25, 1997 to be held at <br />the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, <br />Cal ¡forn ia. <br /> <br />
