<br />Park & Recreatio1f CommilSion <br />. <br /> <br />Minutes of November 25, 1997 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />The Commissioners were given a draft ordinance revision for their review. They <br />were asked to review and get their comments back to Superintendent Hover by <br />December 15. This matter will be on the January agenda for further discussion. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - COMMITTEE UPDATES <br /> <br />-Fundraising for Maddux, Stafford/Stulsaft Parks <br />Superintendent Hover discussed the "draft" Maddux Park renovation Council <br />report. The Maddux Park fundraising group has raised over $1,200 and are <br />interested in moving up the project from fiscal year 2000-2001. <br /> <br />-Adopt-A-Park <br />Commissioner Davis reported on a meeting of the Adopt-A-Park subcommittee <br />and staff. He and Commissioner Hughes met with Superintendent Hover, <br />Manager Mike Gibbons, and Sherene Saberi-Cortez, the City's new Volunteer <br />Services Coordinator. The Commissioners were given a copy of the meeting <br />minutes for their review. The group worked on a mission statement; <br />Superintendent Hover is following up with City of San Jose's coordinator; the <br />group decided to start on a small scale and selected Fleishman Park as the first <br />site. Sherene agreed to contact the Redwood Oaks Homeowners Association to <br />solicit involvement in this project. Commissioner Hughes suggested contacting <br />Eddie Mae Spillers about the project. Commissioner Nordness suggested <br />contacting Ann Gehagan about placing this information on our website. The next <br />meeting of the group will be on December 16. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - DOG EXERCISE AREA UPDATE <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover spoke about a possible site next to Old Radio Road which' <br />is part of a 34 acre piece of property was recently acquired by SBSA. SBSA is in <br />the process of developing a long term plan for the property which should be <br />completed by February or March 1998. After the plan is completed, SBSA <br />should be in a position to sign a lease agreement to establish the dog exercise <br />area. Superintendent Hover has spoken to Mr. Anderlini about the site and he is <br />in favor of the site. The planed site will be approximately 1.5 to 2.0 acres in size. <br />Superintendent Hover said he has also been in contact with the San Carlos <br />Airport regarding the proposed site on their property. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - MONTHLY STAFF REPORTS <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover responded to questions from the Commissioners <br />regarding the managers' monthly reports. He reported staff is working on a <br />report which will identify the number of ways the pathway problems can be <br />corrected in Redwood Shores. <br /> <br />-Commissioner Davis commented that Hoover field is watered excessively on <br />Friday evenings which is a problem when there are Saturday soccer games <br />played on the field. He suggested saving up funds and doing a major renovation <br />of Hoover field. . <br /> <br />-The Commissioners discussed the budget process and noted they want to <br />review the departmental budget; want to see how parks relate to each other in <br />terms of costs; want to review priorities and understand how projects are <br />prioritized; need to know how they can re-prioritize projects if necessary; want to <br /> <br />
