<br />Park & Recreatio~ Covzmi.4;sio,! <br />Minutes of November 25, 1997 <br /> <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />know if programs are self-sustaining; review program projections; and want to <br />see financial figures from Red Morton Center. <br /> <br />ITEM 5 - STAFFORD AND STULSAFT PARK PROJECT UPDATE <br /> <br />The Commissioners were provided with an update memo from Manager Mike <br />Gibbons on this project. The meeting/public hearing for reviewing the conceptual <br />designs will be done at the January 28 Commission meeting which will be held at <br />Red Morton Center. <br /> <br />ITEM 6 - RESULTS OF DEPARTMENT SPONSORED EVENTS <br /> <br />Chairperson Truscelli reported that the "Essence of Italy" dinner dance held on <br />November 8 to benefit the Accessible Recreation Program was well attended; <br />the food was graciously donated and cooked by Pauline and Vince Truscelli. <br />The event was beautifully decorated and enjoyed by everyone in attendance. <br /> <br />The Halloween Spooktakular held on October 25 was an extremely popular <br />event which was attended by over 1 ,300 children and adults. An informational <br />memo from Manager Julie Hannon was provided to Commissioners on this <br />event. <br /> <br />ITEM 7 - SELECT NOMINATION COMMITTEE FOR ELECTION OF 1998 <br />OFFICERS <br /> <br />Chairperson Pauline Truscelli and immediate past chairperson Susan Swope <br />were selected to be on the Nomination Committee for 1998 officers. Election of <br />officers will be held at the January meeting. <br /> <br />ITEM 8 - 1997-98 COMMISSION WORKPLAN DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The Commissioners decided to have a "brainstorming session" to develop their <br />new workplan. The Commissioners spoke about the goal setting process and <br />what items they would like to include as goals. It was suggested that each <br />Commissioner begin thinking now about what they want to see as goals and to <br />develop a list to bring to the brainstorming meeting. Superintendent Hover <br />agreed to organize the meeting and will work on having 1 or 2 City <br />Councilmembers in attendance. The Commissioners selected Saturday, <br />January 10th as their special meeting date; the meeting will be held at the <br />Community Activities Building at 9:00am. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br />-Superintendent Hover said he met with Councilman Ira Ruskin regarding the <br />planting of the downtown planters on Broadway. The project is now completed, <br />it looks great, and everyone is pleased with the results. <br /> <br />-Superintendent Hover also spoke about the proposed work on EI Camino Real <br />and Woodside Road medians for which our department will be responsible. <br />-Commissioner Ed Nordness will be receiving a plaque from the City Council on <br />Monday, December 8 for his service on the Commission. Superintendent Hover <br />and the Commissioners thanked Commissioner Nordness for all his work with <br />the Commission. <br /> <br />
