A meeting will be held to determine what regulatory
agencies the City will need to deal with on this matter. He said that ideally we
would like to remediate the site this fall, let it sit, and then renovate the park in "
the Spring of 2000. Reports of the park closure have appeared on tel"evision,
radio and in the newspapers but not many phone calls have been received at the
department. The commitment still exists to renovate the park.

Superintendent Hover requested e-mail addresses and updated fax numbers for
all the Commissioners. The next meeting about Stulsaft will be held on January
28 at 2:00pm. Commissioner Joseph asked about the testing of the soil and
Superintendent Hover stated the testing began in July, and now because of the
preliminary results, certain areas have been closed off as a preventative
measure. She asked if there is a requirement to test the area or children on a
regular basis because it was previously a mine; Superintendent Hover said not
that we are aware of. Commissioner Slusser felt that fact that the metals in are
the ore state versus a refined state is lucky for us. He applauded the actions
that staff has taken to date. Superintendent Hover confirmed that he requested
the testing and that the results were reported to the City Attorney's Office.
Commissioner Joseph asked about the clean up costs and what would happen
to the Stulsaft Day Camp. Superintendent Hover noted that Superintendent
Corinne Centeno is working on relocating the day camp to another site;
remediation costs will be worked out later on. Commissioner Davis felt that any
proactive education would be good for the community. He noted that the costs
for the clean up should be compartmentalized from the renovation project and
Superintendent Hover stated that would be the case. Fundraising monies raised
to date are $20,403.00 plus a grant of $45,000.00.

ITEM 2 - TENNIS CLUB DATES

Superintendent Hover confirmed that the only date conflict between the Dai Ichi
Tennis Club and the Redwood Shores Tennis club is March 20, although we
have not heard from the Redwood Shores Club this year regarding their 1999
tournament dates.
