Commissioner LaBerge suggested performing the inspections on a
quarterly basis; calling staff if you see something that needs immediate attention;
get out into the parks and observe; and turning in your written reports as they are
completed.

MIS Truscelli/Swope: To continue the park inspections on a quarterly
basis and to submit your reports quarterly to staff.

Motion passed.

ITEM 5 - UPDATES

-School Fields Project
Commissioner Davis reported that the Beals Group was selected as the
consultant for the project. The project will include sand..based fields at Taft and
Garfield Schools; Fair Oaks was removed from the project due to a lack of
funding. The decision to remove Fair Oaks from the project was made by the
County and the School District; the City had no jurisdiction in this matter.
Commissioner Davis noted there was a public hearing on the project on May 25
at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center and 30 people attended the meeting.
The project was well presented by the consultant and there were few questions
from the audience. Chairperson Morton indicated his displeasure at the decision
making process to remove Fair Oaks School from the project.

-Sequoia High School Pool
Superintendent Hover reported that this project is no longer viable.

-Skate Park Design Committee Report
Commissioner Swope reported that she and Commissioner Davis attended a
meeting with staff, citizens, and neighbors on Madison Avenue to discuss the
proposed skate park. She noted there was a large turnout but that the group
was polarized; the kids and parents were in support of the skate park and some
of the neighbors were against the project. Representatives of the NFL Alumni
Association were also in attendance and stated that their lease of the NFL
building included the property behind the building which is the site of the
proposed skate park.

Superintendent Centeno reported that the land behind the NFL Alumni building is
City-owned land and we have discovered that it was included in the lease to the
NFL Alumni Association. She stated we are still interested in proceeding with
the project and believe this is the best site, and that we would like to work with
the NFL Alumni Association on this project. She noted that at the meeting many
issues were raised including traffic problems caused by pool users and parking
issues. A task force involving staff and neighbors was formed to try to resolve
many of these issues. Police cadets will now be used to work on traffic control
issues in front of the pool on Madison Avenue. Superintendent Hover stated that
