Park & Recreation Commission
Minutes of June 23, 1999

..

Page 4

the NFL Alumni Association has not met many of the terms of their lease.
Commissioner Truscelli suggested removing the par course located next to the
Senior Center Annex because of lack of use; the property could then be used for
the project or parking.

Superintendent Centeno announced a temporary skate park will be open
tomorrow, Friday and Saturday at the end of the Dickey Street parking lot at Red
Morton Center. Hours of operation will be 11 :OOam to 4:00pm each week on
Thursday through Saturday.

-4th of July Parade Entry
Chairperson Morton read a letter from the Peninsula Celebration Association
confirming the Commission's location and position in the 4th of July Parade.
Commissioner Joseph reported she has been working with Manager Mike
Gibbons on getting a parade float (8' wide x 16. long) for the Commission to ride
on. She is also locating a large wooden City seal to go on the float. The
Commissioners discussed how the float would be decorated, obtaining
necessary supplies, and how the float would be pulled in the parade. The
Commissioners agreed to meet on Saturday, June 26 at 9:00am at the Municipal
Services Center at 1400 Broadway to decorate the float.

ITEM 5 - DATE SELECTION FOR 1999 PARK TOUR

Superintendent Hover reported that we have not received many responses on
our request to have a park tour on a Saturday in September. It was suggested
by Mayor Howard that we consider having a park tour in the early evening while
it is still light outside. The Commissioners discussed the concept and agreed
that having it on a weekday from 5:00-7:30pm would be a good idea. Possible
dates were discussed and it appeared that most of the Commissioners would be
available in early August on a Wednesday or Thursday.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

-Superintendent Centeno announced the Flea Market at the Veterans Memorial
Senior Center on Saturday, June 26 from 9:00-3:00pm.

The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was adjourned at
9:28pm to be reconvened at 7:30pm on Wednesday. July 28, 1999 to be held at
the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue. Redwood City,
California
