<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Park & Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of August 25, 19~9 <br />t <br /> <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - UPDATES <br /> <br />-School Fields Project <br />Superintendent Hover noted that the plans are 950/0 completed but that Garfield <br />School renovation has been delayed due to School District construction; the <br />delay of 2 to 3 months could actually delay the project approximately one year. <br /> <br />-Skate Park Design Committee Report <br />Superintendent Hover reported staff has had two meetings with the NFL on this <br />matter. Commissioner Swope distributed an article from the San Mateo County <br />Times regarding the recent closure of the City of San Mateo's skatepark. <br />Commissioner Joseph said she contacted that city regarding the closure and <br />was told that they had had several problems at the site and have changed their <br />outlook and will be re-camping the site. The Commissioners also discussed the <br />temporary skatepark ramps behind Red Morton Center and Commissioner <br />LaBerge reported that he observed the site to be well used and well supervised <br />by our staff. <br /> <br />-Union Cemetery Status Report <br />Commissioner Davis and Superintendent Hover reported that after meeting with <br />staff, it has been determined that all historical guidelines are being followed at <br />Union Cemetery. A 1992 draft master plan of the site is being reviewed and <br />updated and will be presented to the Commission at a later date. <br /> <br />-Adopt-a-Park Program . <br />Superintendent Hover reported that staff has been approached by a church <br />group who would like to adopt Stafford Park after the renovation is completed. <br />He reported that Manager Mike Gibbons will be working with this group to add it <br />to ou r Adopt-a-Park program, Commissioner Joseph reported that she was <br />approached by a school principal regarding having students do community <br />service at one of our park and Superintendent Hover suggested that the principal <br />send him a letter regarding their proposal. <br /> <br />ITEM 5 - COUNCIL STUDY SESSION <br /> <br />The Commissioners felt that they would like to hold off having a study session <br />with the Council until our strategic plan is completed, <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br />-Commissioner Truscelli invited everyone to the ribbon cutting ceremony of the <br />Gift Shop at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center to be held on Wednesday, <br />September 1 at 10:30am. <br /> <br />-Superintendent Hover reported the City Council approved the purchase of our <br />new Computerized Management Maintenance System (CMMS) Program. The <br />program will begin computerizing our building maintenance division and will then <br />incorporate our parks and custodial divisions. <br /> <br />
