<br />. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />.'- <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />'"' <br /> <br />.... <br /> <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 1999 <br /> <br />. , <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Morton, Commissioners Davis, <br />Joseph, LaBerge, Slusser (arrived 7:45pm) <br />Swope, Truscelli <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Vince Truscelli, Vance Smith, Jerry Rexoth <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Superintendents Corinne Centeno and Gary Hover, <br />Managers Chris Beth and Julie Hannon <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission was called to <br />order by Chairperson Vie Morton at 7: 35pm in Room 5 at the Community <br />Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />, . <br /> <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />'. <br />': <br />" <br /> <br />The minutes of the August meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />No correspondence was received. <br /> <br />The Commission elected to take the following item out of order as there were, <br />four individuals in the audience present to talk on the skate park item. <br /> <br />.. <br />~, <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - UPDATES <br /> <br />.:~. <br /> <br />'. <br /> <br />-Skate Park Design Committee Report <br />Vance Smith reports that he lives across from the proposed entry of the <br />skate park and was present because of the Independent Newspaper article <br />he read reporting that the skate park project was "proceeding as planned". <br />Mr. Smith was concerned because he and others had attended a meeting <br />some months ago where he believed that he would be notified about further <br />meetings. Since he was not notified about any subsequent meetings and <br />according to the Independent article, the project was proceeding as planned" <br />he wanted to protest the perceived City progress. Mr. Smith also <br />commented on the lack of a drop off point for kids wanting to use the park, <br />increased noise that would be generated by the park, and the perceived <br />inability of the Police to adequately view the facility while driving by. <br /> <br /> <br />... <br /> <br />,i <br /> <br />,.. <br />. <br /> <br />" . <br /> <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Commissioner Davis apologized for the newspaper's incorrect information <br />and elaborated on his recent personal experiences about the Independent <br />Newspaper's reporting on alcohol in the parks.
