Superintendent Centeno informed the group that they had met with the NFL Alumni Association, the leaseholder of the site proposed for the skate park, who indicated they are "going to think about it." Th~ newspaper article . was clearly inaccurate as to the current status of the project. Manager Julie Hannon apologized for not getting back with Mr. Smith to update him about the skate park. Chairperson Morton said that the misinformation was coming from the newspaper. Jerry Rexoth of 1320 Madison Avenue said that he would not rehash what his neighbor already discussed. He said that access to the site is an issue. He stated that if he were a business, the City would never let him have a business with the kind of access the City is proposing. He then asked what part does the Commission play in the approval process for the park and Commissioner Davis responded that the Commission would make a recommendation to the City Council. ITEM 1 - PRESENTATION OF SPORTS II.AQUATICS¡ YOUTH II. TEEN PROGRAMS Superintendent Corinne Centeno with Managers Chris Beth and Julie Hannon presented an alphabet riddle of this past summer's accomplishments. A summary of the presentation was given to each of the Commissioners. The recreation staff would like to present to the Commission on a quarterly basis the current progress of various recreation programs. Commissioner Slusser complimented the staff on what they do and the other Commissioners chimed in on the compliments. ITEM 2- STULSAFT PARK UPDATE Superintendent Hover reported on the September 16, 1999 meeting with the consultant, County Health Department and the State Department of Toxic Substance Control. A letter of understanding will be forthcoming that will allow the City to conditionally proceed with the development project. It was reported that all felt that the meeting was very constructive. The Commission was given a copy of the latest update that has been posted in the park. ITEM 3- REPORT FROM SUB-COMMITTEES -Alcohol in the Parks Commissioners LaBerge and Davis have a meeting with Chief Bolanos scheduled for September 29, 1999 to review his concerns relative to allowing alcohol in the parks and the related enforcement. -Goals and Objectives/Strategic Planning Commissioner Swope reported that the sub-committee is growing with new members from including Cultural Commissioner Barbara Pierce and
