<br />, <br /> <br />I' <br /> <br />... <br />.. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of Wednesday, September 22,1999 <br /> <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />Superintendent Centeno together with other related Commission and Board <br />members now joining the effort. The sub-committee is in the data collection <br />mode with the ultimate goal being inclusion in the City's General Plan update. <br />The next meeting is October 6, 1999. . <br /> <br />-Restroom Policy <br />The Commission took action on this item at last month's meeting. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - UPDATES <br /> <br />-School Fields Project <br />Superintendent Hover reported that the new schedule for construction at <br />Garfield School is now 2001 and Taft School is 2000. If the State Architect <br />has to review the projects, then the construction could be delayed further. <br />Commissioner Davis expressed his concern that Fair Oaks School was <br />originally to be developed and he felt slighted by the deletion of that facility. <br /> <br />-Union Cemetery Status Report <br />Superintendent Hover reported that the Redwood City Heritage Association <br />honored the Historic Union Cemetery Association and the Parks, Recreation <br />and Community Services Department for their efforts in recreating the 1889 <br />Union Soldier Statue. The plaque awarded was displayed to the Commission. <br />Commissioner Truscelli noted that Manager Ramon Aguilar was given a <br />commendation for his efforts with the Cemetery project. <br /> <br />-Adopt-A-Park <br />Superintendent Hover reported that several parks are being adopted <br />including Stafford Park, which is becoming popular. In addition to being <br />adopted by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, an application has been <br />received by North Star Academy to also adopt Stafford Park. In addition to <br />Stafford, Mariner Park has been adopted by the Redwood Shores <br />Homeowners Association and Garrett Park has been adopted by the Redwood <br />City Police Department Cadet Program. Commissioner Joseph reported that <br />several other schools are intending to adopt adjacent parks. Commissioner <br />Slusser was very encouraged by getting schools involved in the program. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br />The Italian Dinner Concert was announced by Commissioner Truscelli. <br />The date is October 14, 1999 at 6:00pm in the Redwood Room of the Senior <br />Center Veterans Memorial Building. The cost is $10.00 and a concert is to <br />follow in the Little Theater. <br /> <br />Stafford Park Renovation Dedication will be held on Saturday October 9, <br />1999. Commissioner Susan Swope has agreed to act as the Master of <br />Ceremony for the dedication. <br /> <br />
