<br /> <br />Park & Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of October 27, 1999 <br /> <br />Page 5 <br /> <br />ITEM 6 - UPDATES <br /> <br />Director. <br />Griffiths <br /> <br />-School Fields Projec Director Griffiths <br />reported that the agreement will go to Council for approval <br />on November 8. The 100% drawings are almost completed and we hope to put <br />the project out to bid this winter. Taft renovation will begin March or April 2000; <br />Garfield will be delayed until 2001 due to construction on the school site. <br /> <br />-Skate Park Design Committee Report <br />.* . . . reported Superintendent Centeno had a meeting with <br />Attorney Bill Conklin regarding the proposed park; a letter and report regarding <br />the joint project is being prepared; more information will be coming at the <br />November meeting. <br /> <br /> <br />-Adopt-a-Park Program <br />The Commissioners received a beautifully designed flyer created by Assistant <br />Recreation Center Supervisor Diane Mcintyre for our Adopt-A-Park Program. <br />Superintendent Hover reported that Manager Mike Gibbons met with Northstar <br />and McKinley regarding their participation in the program. He also reported on a <br />comments staff has received regarding the sign denoting the adoption of Stafford <br />Park by the Unitarian Universalist Church; the sign has been removed and staff <br />is looking at a new sign. <br /> <br />-Community Impact Day-Broadway Street Planting <br />Superintendent Hover reported that the event was held on October 2 and 64 <br />volunteers and several of landscape gardeners planted 5,800 plants into the 36 <br />downtown planters. It took 722 hours of staff time to prepare the planters for this <br />project. He stated he was very impressed with the project and felt it was a great <br />event. <br /> <br />-Stafford Park Opening <br />Superintendent Hover reported the grand opening went very well and the park <br />has been well received by the community. Staff received great feedback from <br />the City Council regarding the park and the grand opening. Staff is currently <br />looking for self-closing gates for the tiny tot play area. <br /> <br />-Maddux Park Renovation <br />Superintendent Hover reported that staff will be meeting very soon with Stacey <br />Stunes regarding the Maddux Park renovation project. <br /> <br />ITEM 7 - COMMISSIONS AND BOARD CHAIRPERSON SESSION WITH THE <br />MA VOR <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover reported that he and Commissioner Swope attended this <br />meeting with the Mayor along with representatives from 13 other City boards and <br />commissions. Each representative gave a brief update on what items their <br />respective board or commission was currently working on. Commissioner <br />Swope spoke about the dog park, new ordinance changes, Stafford Park grand <br />opening, strategic planning efforts, renovation of playfields, and work at Union <br />Cemetery done with the Historic Union Cemetery Association. <br /> <br />
