<br />AGENDA (continued) <br /> <br />REPORTS OF CITY MANAGER (continued) <br /> <br />Item No.3 (continued) <br /> <br />a. <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ARTICLE II OF <br />THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY; <br />AND ADDING ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 12 TO <br />THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />RELATING TO FIRE PREVENTION; AND <br />ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THE "UNIFORM FIRE <br />CODE, 1982 EDITION," AS PUBLISHED BY THE <br />INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF BUILDING <br />OFFICIALS AND THE WESTERN FIRE CHIEFS <br />ASSOC IATION <br /> <br />ACTION TAKEN (continued) <br /> <br />REPORTS OF CITY MANAGER (continued) <br /> <br />City Attorney Schricker explained that the <br />public hearing procedure on the Uniform Fire <br />Code is different from usual hearing <br />procedure in that Council is asked to <br />approve the proposed ordinance which will <br />then be published before the public hearing <br />is held and the ordinance finally adopted. <br />Mr. Schricker advised that if changes are <br />made following the public hearing, it will <br />be necessary to readvertise the proposed <br />ordinance. <br /> <br />Discussion followed concerning the meaning <br />of statistics relating to experience of <br />cit ies where fireworks are and are not <br />banned. <br /> <br />Director of Fire Services O'Brien stated <br />that enforcement with regard to use of <br />illegal fireworks is difficult when "safe <br />and sane" fireworks are allowed and that <br />many fires and injuries are the result of <br />legal fireworks in cities where they are not <br />banned. Chief O'Brien recommended that all <br />fireworks be banned. <br /> <br />Discussion continued regarding the desire of <br />Council to hear public testimony before <br />considering any changes in the proposed <br />ordinance. <br /> <br />Leo Crawford, 356 Topaz Street, stated that <br />he will withhold comment until the public <br />hearing and distributed copies of a document <br />entitled "Reported Fires and Fire Loss South <br />County Fire Deparment - 1981 Fireworks <br />Season" . <br /> <br />Title read. <br /> <br />MIS: <br /> <br />Bury IBiagi <br /> <br />ORDINANCE approved and the public hearing to <br />take place on August 23, 1982 in the Board of <br />Supervisors Chambers, 401 Marshall Street. <br /> <br />Carried unanimously by roll call vote. <br />MINUTE ORDER NO. 82-127 <br /> <br />------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------- <br /> <br />4.
