Public Hearing - Uniform Fire Code, 1982
Edition

Report of City Manager and Director of Fire
Services 7/19/82

Affidavit of Publication of Notice of Hearing and of approved proposed
ordinance is on file in the City Clerk Department

Director of Fire Services O'Brien referred to his report, stating that
the proposed ordinance adopting the 1982 Code includes a ban on "safe
and sane" fireworks and recommended that the ban be retained.

Mayor Stangel declared the public hearing open at 7:40 p.m.

Leo Crawford, 356 Topzaz Street, representing Red Devil Division of
pyrotronics Corporation, referred to material distributed to Council in
support of his opposition to a ban on "safe and sane" fireworks during
the Fourth of July holiday period. Mr. Crawford said that such a ban is
not an entity considered in the setting of fire ratings done by
insurance companies; suggested that almost all injuries and fires are
caused by illegal fireworks; and reported that several service clubs and
other nonprofit organizations obtain funds to carry out their worthwhile
work through the annual sale of fireworks. Mr. Crawford replied to
questions and commented concerning his statements in opposition to a ban
on all fireworks.

Reg.Mtg.
8/23/82

/'-

,-\)1

-.--",~_._~--_.."-'-'

.
