<br />- <br /> <br />" <br /> <br /> <br />¡{);) >4t ~ <br /> <br />.... <br /> <br /> <br />,M <br /> <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />!Jd J ~ <br /> <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, JULY 13, 1988 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: <br /> <br />Chairman Swope, Vice-chairman Weiss, <br />Commissioners Anderson, Howard, Mortensen, <br />Nordness and Slusser <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: <br /> <br />City Councilwoman Buchan, Al Rollins, <br />Senors Softball League and Nita Spangler, <br />Union Cemetery Committee <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: <br /> <br />Parks, Recreation and Community Services <br />Director Griffiths and Secretary Frei <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called <br />to order at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Activities Building, 1400 <br />Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. The minutes of the June <br />8,1988 meeting were approved as mailed with the following <br />correction: Commissioners present should also include Commissioner <br />Robert Slusser. Mr. Al Rollins was added to the agenda as a <br />discussion item only. <br /> <br />CorresEondence <br /> <br />Chief Guardino sent a letter to the Commission relaying a request <br />from the Police Youth Club Board to name a field after the club and <br />that they would like to donate $15,000 to be used for field <br />maintenance. See item 5. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - UNION CEMETERY <br /> <br />Nita Spangler thanked the Commission and Department fo"r hosting such <br />a productive and organized clean-up. She said everyone was looking <br />forward to the next one. . <br /> <br />Ms. Spangler gave a summary of Union Cemetery's history and what was <br />involved in having it listed in the National Register of Historic <br />Places and becoming California Historical Landmark No. 816. <br /> <br />Ms. Spangler presented the following two proposals to the <br />Commission: <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />Specifically name the cemetery IIUnion Cemetery Historic Site" <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />Adopt a unique policy and set of rules and regulations for the <br />cemetery <br /> <br />Some of her suggestions for rules and regulations were: <br /> <br />- no metal detectors <br />- no rubbings <br /> <br />_. <br />
