~
!

.

.

has been considered. Director Griffiths responded that no plans for
such had been requested of the landscape architect.

Commissioner Slusser felt a fence along the lagoon should be
considered so children and balls would not be tempted into the
water. Director Griffiths said vegetation was planned and did not
see why a galvanized fence could not be added behind the plant
screen.

Director Griffiths asked the representatives from Redwood Shores if
the community would be interested in viewing these conceptual plans.
Commissioner Slusser suggested that we run them in the. next Pilot
issue. Staff will get the drawings to the Pilot in order to make
the next issue.

In light of the drought conditions, city policy has stated that no
new landscaping will be developed. The summer of 1989 will be the
earliest construction could begin on these projects, if it rains
this winter.

ITEM 5 - POLICE YOUTH CLUB

After review of the PYC Board's letter, the Commission decided to
write Chief Guardino a letter asking if the Board would be agreeable
to alternatives.

ITEM 6 - REPORT FROM MORTENSEN RE NAMING OF FACILITY

Commissioner Mortensen represented the Park and Recreation
Commission on the Naming of Facility for John Rosselli Committee.
The Fair Oaks Community Center is being considered, however, the
Fair Oaks Advisory Board and the T.E.W.C.I. Board have yet to meet
on this suggestion. Commissioner Mortensen's recommendation was to
let these two organizations decide how they felt since it was their
joint facility involved. The Community Activities Building was also
discussed as an alternate. Commissioner Mortensen felt this was a
timely matter and that as soon as the two Boards had made a
decision, the Commission should then act accordingly.

ITEM 7 - WATER CONSERVATION

Director Griffiths informed the Commission that the Department was
currently using reclaimed water to water several street medians and
limited public use areas. In the month of June the Department
reduced water usage by 6.4 million gallons. We attained a 60%
reduction as mandated.

ITEM 8 - COMMITTEE REPORTS

Stulsaft Park Committee - The Stulsaft Park Clean-Up was announced
for October 15,1988. Councilwoman Buchan suggested the Commission
direct the Beautification Committee with some guidelines for the
clean-up.

Alcoholic Beverage Committee - Staff will recheck with the City

~
