<br />P~E9 <br />Emergency Management <br />Plan Policy <br /> <br />4..0 PUBLIC INFORMATION <br /> <br />The press has the right to know about the emergency but shall not <br />be allowed to interfere in any way with the operations or programs <br />necessary to mitigate the emergency. <br /> <br />4.1 All Emergency Organization personnel will refer the press/media <br />to the City Public Information Officer (PIO). <br /> <br />4.2 The PIO shall gather such information as necessary to prepare <br />and issue press releases, respond to media questions, organize <br />press conferences and make public service emergency broadcasts, <br />all subject to approval of the Director of Emergency Services. <br /> <br />4.3 The PIO shall work with and assist the press in releasing <br />accurate information reflecting actual field conditions. <br /> <br />4.4 The PIO may establish additional PIO Team Personnel and <br />access rules relating to field or tactical situations as <br />deemed necessary, or to establish a Community Information <br />Center as needed. <br /> <br />4.5 The Mayor shall be the City Council's spokesperson and shall <br />be provided current information for Press Releases and general <br />public information through the City PIO. <br /> <br />11402 <br />
