<br />Par~ & Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of February 23} 2000 <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />J <br /> <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />-There have been no reports of people getting sick from geese feces <br />~State laws protect this bird I but no one has ever been sited for harming this bird <br />-Federal laws also protect this bird <br />-This bird is also protected Internationally <br />-It can live 10 to 28 years and can multiply 2-3 times per year <br />-The birds can transmit diseases among themselves <br />-There is nothing we can do about this problem <br />-The white geese in Redwood Shores are not protected <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover stated we will continue to apply "Rejex-it" to our turf areas <br />to deter the geese and will maintain the status quo. <br /> <br />ITEM 6 - UPDATES <br /> <br />-Stulsaft Park Remediation <br />Superintendent Hover reported the public meeting was held on February 10 and <br />six members of the public attended. The consultant reviewed the process to be <br />followed. No action is required for the playground and field areas. The tailings <br />area will probably be covered with clay material. Superintendent Hover reported <br />the Department of Toxic Substances Control is closing their file on this matter. <br /> <br />-Park Ordinance Update <br />Superintendent Hover reported staff is obtaining pricing on dog disposal <br />dispensers. New park signs are being developed to replace the current brown <br />park signs. Target date for getting the new signage installed is April 1. The <br />department placed a notice in the water bills to advise the community about the <br />recent change in park ordinances. <br /> <br />-Park Inspections . <br />Superintendent Hover has prepared a binder with all the completed park <br />inspections and it will be available in the office if anyone wants to review it. After <br />he reviews each park inspection report, the Park Managers review them and <br />work orders are completed to resolve any maintenance issues. <br /> <br />ITEM 7 - 2000-2002 BUDGET PROCESS <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover passed out a new calendar for the two year budget <br />process. <br /> <br />ITEM 8 - CPRS CONFERENCE 2000 <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover announced the CPRS Conference will be held March 14- <br />19 in Ontario, California and there are funds budgeted for one Commissioner to <br />attend. Commissioner Joseph stated she would be interested in attending. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br />-Commissioner Joseph brought up the idea of additional youth-oriented concerts <br />in the park. Commissioner Slusser suggested Commissioner Joseph take a <br />recommendation to the Youth Advisory Board suggesting they take the request <br />to the Civic Cultural Commission for a grant to pay for the concerts and have the <br />Youth Advisory Board run it. <br /> <br />
