..

.

Park & Recreation Commission '"
Minutes of June 28, 2000

Page 2

Redwood Shores Parkway Eucalyptus. He explained that Dr. Donald Dahlsten
of UC Berkeley will be releasing the wasp in July or August in Redwood City.
Wasp testing is currently being done in Southern California and no negative
effects have been noted.

Commissioner Slusser felt that the Commission should give guidance to staff
to handle tree placement issues due to previous property owners mistakes
and believes this is going to be a problem in the future. There was
discussion about having guidelines for public trees and a suggestion was
made to do it through a method of protocol versus changing the ordinance.
Superintendent Mann asked for feedback from the Commissioners on the
document he presented this evening and will develop a matrix. Chairperson
Davis commended Superintendent Mann for his work on this matter.

ITEM 2 - GARFIELD SCHOOL WINDMILL

Commissioner Joseph reported on the move of the windmill from Garfield
School to the Municipal Services Center. She has prepared an article and
pictures for local newspapers to generate interest in the project. Chairperson
Davis said he located the original restorer of the windmill and has located
some missing parts for the windmill. Commissioner Joseph stated she
attended her second meeting of the Historic Resources Advisory Committee
(HRAC) and reported they were very enthusiastic and want to participate.
She asked the HRAC to assist in the booth at the 4th of July Festival. HRAC
agreed to locate estimators for the project and Jean Cloud will write an article
for the Almanac.

ITEM 3 - 4TH OF JULY FLOAT ENTRY

Commissioner Joseph announced that Chairperson Davis did an incredible job
on constructing a model windmill for the parade float. Decorating of the float
will occur on Monday, July 3 at 1:00pm at the MSC. Our location in the
parade is Division 2, position 72. Help is needed at the booth on the 4th of
July.

ITEM 4 - UPDATES

-Stulsaft Park Bid
Superintendent Hover reported that the bid was awarded at the Council
meeting on Monday, June 26. The project is estimated to be completed in
November or December 2000.

-Maddux Park Renovation
Superintendent Hover stated that the Maddux Park group reviewed the
preliminary plans today and were pleased with the design. A public hearing
will be held in August for review by the public and notices will be mailed out
to all the neighbors.
