<br />Park & Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of July 26, 2000 <br /> <br />Page 7 <br /> <br />-Strategic Planning <br />Commissioner Swope reported that the committee met for three hours with <br />the consultant on July 18 and a questionnaire was developed and was given <br />out to all department employees. The committee will also be adopting a <br />mission statement and their next meeting will be on August 9. <br /> <br />-4TH of July Float Entry <br />Commissioner Joseph reported that our float won first place in the <br />professional class and we received a plaque for our efforts. She thanked <br />many people including Chairperson Davis, Superintendent Hover, Director <br />Griffiths, Manager Gibbons, Park staff, and Commissioners Truscelli and <br />Swope for their work on the float and 4th of July booth. <br /> <br />-Windmill Update <br />Commissioner Joseph reported that $136.00 was collected in donations at the <br />parade booth for the windmill. Commissioner Truscelli gave Commissioner <br />Joseph $130.00 which she collected at the Senior Center towards the project. <br />Commissioner Joseph said she submitted articles to the Independent and the <br />Redwood City Almanac about the project. The Independent will be doing a <br />story very soon on the project and Steve Penna of the Almanac has agreed <br />to run the article. She announced she attended the Historic Resources <br />Advisory Committee meeting last week and someone from their group will do <br />the drawings for us and Architect Morton Frank is also working on the <br />project. More pieces of the windmill have been located. A fundraising <br />dinner/auction at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center is planned for the end <br />of September. Chairperson Davis stated he is submitting a list of expenses <br />for the mini-windmill he constructed and it will become City property that <br />could be used as a fundraising tool. He has developed a list of assembly <br />instructions and a detailed inventory list of the actual windmill pieces. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - PARK TOUR DATE SELECTION <br /> <br />The date of Saturday, October 14 was selected as the 2000 Park Tour date. <br />Chairperson Davis will work with Superintendent Hover to develop an agenda <br />for the meet;ng. The meeting will begin with lunch at 12 :00 noon, followed <br />by a short meeting and a tour of several park locations. . <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - REPORT ON JULY 8TH COMMISSION TRAINING <br /> <br />Commissioner Truscelli stated she enjoyed the July 8 Commission training in <br />Foster City and prepared a written report for the Commissioners which will be <br />included in their August packet. Commissioner Joseph also enjoyed the <br />meeting and received information on my topics including advocacy working <br />with legislators, children's music in the park programs, Brown Act, strategic <br />plans from other cities, and Christmas in the Park programs. She will discuss <br />at our August meeting in further detail. <br /> <br />
