<br />Park & Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of September 27, 2000 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />safety issue due to closeness of trees to his house, and felt that there was <br />possible damage to his foundation due to the roots. <br /> <br />Commissioner Swope asked Mr. Fukutome why he did not put in the root <br />barrier during the construction remodeling of his house and Mr. Fukutome <br />said there was not enough room. She felt that the trees were not a danger <br />to his house but asked if they were an asset to the community due to their <br />disfigurement due to wire pruning. <br /> <br />Commissioner LaBerge thanked Superintendent Mann for following the City's <br />tree preservation ordinance and doing exactly what was required. He felt the <br />trees were not an asset to the community due to their location and would <br />agree to granting the permit for removal. <br /> <br />Commissioner Joseph felt that the trees added no beauty to the <br />neighborhood. Commissioner Morton said he would concur to having the <br />trees removed. Commissioner Truscelli said she would abstain from the vote <br />beca use she did not view the trees on the property. <br /> <br />Chairperson Davis asked if replacement trees would be planted if the permit <br />was granted, and potential spots for another tree on the property. <br />Superintendent Mann spoke about different species of small scale trees which <br />could be planted to replace the removed trees. <br /> <br />M/S Morton/ : To approve the appeal of 3035 McGarvey Avenue. <br />Motion died due to lack of a second. <br /> <br />M/S Joseph/Morton: To approve the appeal of 3035 McGarvey <br />Avenue on the condition a replacement tree is planted with <br />Superintendent Mann's approval. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Chairperson Davis suggested making the review of tree planting part of the <br />Building Permit Process. Superintendent Mann stated staff is working on this <br />and suggested that the Commission send a memo to Community <br />Development Director Deborah Nelson with this recommendation. <br />Chairperson Davis stated he will work with Superintendent Hover on this <br />matter.
