Local middle
and high schools will be contacted as well as neighbors, Youth Advisory
Board, parents and members of the Police Department. The task force will
help with the design phase, visit other skate parks for ideas, and help with
any fund raising that may be required. Assistant Supervisor Haqq-Smith said
that $150,000 has been allocated for the project.

The Commissioners asked about neighbors near the proposed skate park site
who previously were not in support of the project. Assistant Supervisor
Haqq-Smith stated that letters were sent to both neighbors in July advising
them of our negotiations with the NFL Alumni Association. She noted that
one neighbor did not respond to the letter and the other did not respond
favorably, but she is hoping to convince this neighbor to support the project.
Commissioner Swope stated that the neighbors were previously concerned
about access and traffic issues surrounding the project. Assistant Supervisor
Haqq-Smith said that the schedule of swimming lessons were adjusted this
past summer to allow for less traffic in the front of the facility. She stated
that staff will supervise the skatepark, there will be fencing around the site,
signs will be posted advising the public of the liability for using the park,
users will be required to wear helmets and pads, and it has not been
determined if there will be a fee to users of the skatepark. It was suggested
touring the "vans" and researching skateparks located in other cities.
Manager Linda Griffith, Mike Gibbons, Chu Chang of Engineering and Adilah
Haqq-Smith are on the skatepark steering committee. Chairperson Davis
and Commission Swope volunteered to be on the task force.

ITEM 2 - UPDATE ON TREES IN REDWOOD SHORES

Superintendent Hover announced that he has requested an update on the
wasp program from Public Works Superintendent Gordon Mann. A deadline
of November 20 has been set for the removal of the Vedder tree. If there is
no favorable news on the wasp program, Mr. Vedder has been informed that
the tree next to his property will be removed. Superintendent Hover stated
the Mayor was in agreement with the process being followed.

ITEM 3 - SPINAS PARK RENOVATION

Chairperson Davis reported he and Commissioners Joseph and Swope
attended the meeting of the Friendly Acres Neighborhood Association to
obtain input in the renovation of the Spinas Park. He noted that none of the
attendees appeared to be interested in the project. Superintendent Hover
said that the scope of the project is different than what staff originally
thought and he will speak to Peter Griffiths regarding the project.
