He asked Superintendent Mann to provide information
about Redwood trees. Superintendent Mann stated that Redwood trees
generally live 200-300 years in our community and he estimated that this
tree has 50-100 years left. He stated that this tree is 15-20% higher than
the other Redwood trees in the property owner's yard.

Commissioner Swope asked about the City's liability should this tree fall over
at a later time. Superintendent Mann stated that there is no arboricultural
evidence that there is a problem with this tree. He .stated if staff sees
something wrong with a tree, this information is provided to the property
owner. Commissioner Swope asked if this tree was removed, would it be a
would it affect the remaining redwood trees and Superintendent Mann stated
that it would not.

Mrs. Hoenak spoke about the original tree in that location which fell into her
house and caused considerable damage. Commissioner Davis felt that
technically there was no reason for the tree to come down but wanted to
consider Mrs. Hoenak's concerns. He felt this tree was not visually appealing
and would elect to remove the tree.

Commissioner Swope felt the removal of this tree would not affect the
neighborhood because of the large number of trees in the area.
Commissioner Walsh and Chairperson Joseph agreed with their fellow
Commissioners.

M/S Davis/Swope: To allow the tree removal permit was 1584
Mitchell Way.
Motion passed unanimously.

Superintendent Mann confirmed with the Commission that it would not be a
requirement to have Mrs. Hoenak plant a replacement tree and the
Commissioners agreed.

ITEM 2 - SAN MATEO COUNTY COURTHOUSE RESTORATION PROJECT

Georgi La Berge of the Historic Courthouse Restoration Committee
announced the 15 member committee is looking to permanently remove the
two annexes from the downtown courthouse building and to also re-install
the park previously located on the site.
