<br />.. <br /> <br />r <br /> <br />Park & Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of April 25, 2001 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - SKATEPARK UPDATE <br /> <br />Superintendent Beth reported that the presentation to City Council on March <br />26, 2001 went very well although neighbor Vance Smith announced that he <br />was not advised of the meeting. The next meeting with the neighbors will be <br />held on May 8 at 7:00pm at Red Morton Center. Superintendent Beth <br />announced an information packet including a list of frequently asked <br />questions is being mailed to the neighbors. He also reported that staff is <br />looking at different locations within Red Morton Park for the skate park. The <br />Commissioners were provided with a copy of a skate park report from the <br />Community Development Department which has statistical information on <br />other skate parks in California. Superintendent Beth and Supervisor Adilah <br />Haqq-Smith will be attending a skate park meeting in San Rafael on April 26. <br />There will be a skate park task force meeting on May 9 at 4:00pm and <br />meeting notices are being sent to all schools. <br /> <br />The Commissioners discussed various issues including awareness of property <br />owners adjacent to the park, off-street parking, underground parking, offsite <br />parking with shuttle, parking behind the McGarvey bleachers, and the <br />concern that we are missing the opportunity to canvas the neighborhood <br />after the Council meeting. Chairperson Joseph and Commissioners Swope <br />and Davis will be in attendance at the May 8 meeting with the neighbors; <br />Commissioner La Berge will be the alternate. The Commissioners discussed <br />receiving copies of correspondence before and after it goes out to the <br />neighbors. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - RECREATION PROGRAMS UPDATE <br /> <br />Superintendent Beth provided the Commissioners with a written update on <br />the Recreation and Community Services Division and spoke about several <br />upcoming events. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - STULSAFT PARK PLAY AREA DEDICATION <br /> <br />The Commissioners complimented staff on a very successful park dedication <br />and thanked Park Manager Mike Gibbons for his work on the event. <br />Superintendent Hover announced he received a call from the Stulsaft <br />Foundation who are interested in continuing their involvement with the park. <br />He also provided the Commissioners with a copy of a letter he sent to <br />Stulsaft Park neighbors in order to be pro-active on park usage issues. <br /> <br />ITEM 5 - 4TH OF JULY FLOAT <br /> <br />The Commissioners agreed to again participate in the 4th of July Parade. <br />Commissioner Matt Walsh will be in charge of the design of the 4th of July <br />float which will have a skate park theme. <br /> <br /> <br />";,,;,.' , " <br /> <br />
