Park & Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of June 27/ 2001 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - REVIEW OF SPINAS PARK DESIGN PLANS <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover reported he visited Spinas Park last week and made <br />several suggestions to Susan McKay about the proposed park design. He <br />reviewed his suggestions with the Commissioners and introduced Roxanne <br />Dragan of the FriendJy Acres Homeowners Association and member of the <br />Spin as Park Design Committee. Superintendent Hover reported the <br />committee will be meeting very soon to discuss the proposed design and <br />asked for Commissioners to join the design committee. Chairperson Joseph <br />volunteered to be on the committee and suggested to the Commission that <br />they each visit the park with the proposed design. Commissioner Swope also <br />volunteered to participate on the committee. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - 4TH OF JULY FLOAT <br /> <br />Commissioner Walsh reported that the theme of the float is the skatepark <br />and Jason Strubing from Skate Works is helping us obtain an enlarged <br />skateboard which will go on the float. Commissioner Walsh reported he will <br />be working on the float on Sunday, July 1 at 1:00pm at the Municipal Service <br />Center and invited the Commissioners to help. Chairperson Joseph spoke <br />about the windmill booth which will be set up at the 4th of July Festival and <br />asked the Commissioners to help work the booth. <br /> <br />ITEM 3- UPDATES <br /> <br />-School Fields, Capital Projects <br />Senior Engineer Peter Vorametsanti spoke about the status of the Garfield <br />School field. The contract has been awarded and the work will proceed in <br />mid-July. Superintendent Hover spoke about the renovation of Hoover field <br />and stated that funding will come from Proposition 12 and CDBG funding. He <br />spoke about a visit to Valley Christian High School in San Jose where a <br />synthetic playing field has been installed. This synthetic field uses no water, <br />it can be played on continuously, it will not flood, and has an eight year <br />warranty, although the field does have a high repair cost. Superintendent <br />Hover stated that the installation of synthetic field is being considered for <br />Hoover Park and he invited the Commissioners to visit Valley Christian School <br />with staff on Tuesday, July 10 at 9:00am. <br /> <br />-Maddux Park <br />Superintendent Hover reviewed the bids which were received for the Maddux <br />Park renovation and Stulsaft Park restroom project and noted that all the bids <br />came in over the $455,000 budget. He stated that he is working with <br />Engineering and the City Attorney's Office to see if the bids can be separated <br />into two separate projects so that we can award the base bid for Maddux <br />Park and handle the Stulsaft Park restroom project alone. <br /> <br />
