Park & Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of June 27, 2001 <br /> <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />-Strategic Plan <br />Commissioner Swope stated the committee met with Peninsula Conflict <br />Resolution Center and she will follow up on setting up another meeting date. <br /> <br />-Windmill Project <br />Chairperson Joseph stated the committee is meeting every two weeks and <br />they will be having a booth at the 4th of July Festival. She spoke about a <br />donation letter and committee plans. <br /> <br />-Skatepark <br />Superintendent Hover reported that Director Centeno and Superintendent <br />Beth met with Roosevelt neighbors and tennis players regarding the plans for <br />the skatepark. The neighbors stated that have a petition signed by 200 <br />people who do not want the skatepark located next to the tennis courts at <br />Red Morton Park. Superintendent Hover stated that staff is looking at <br />alternative areas including an area on Main Street next to the roller rink <br />which is in the Redevelopment Area. The basement of the planned parking <br />structure in the Cinema Project was also noted as a possible site. <br />Superintendent Hover noted that the City of San Carlos is going to install <br />small skatepark vignettes in particular parks. <br /> <br />-Drainage Pipe at Garrett Park <br />Superintendent Hover reported that homeowners above Garrett Park are <br />working with Engineering to install a drainage pipe in the undeveloped area <br />of the park. This pipe will not impact the park and will help resolve drainage <br />issues for the homeowners. <br /> <br />-Stulsaft Park Award <br />Superintendent Hover announced the department received a "Project of the <br />Year 2001" award for Stulsaft Park Renovation Project from the South Bay <br />Area Chapter of the American Public Works Association. Manager Mike <br />Gibbons presented a PowerPoint presentation on the project at a recent <br />luncheon where the department was honored. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - CREATE CIVIC ENGAGEMENT (CCE) <br /> <br />Chairperson Joseph announced she would like the Park and Recreation <br />Commission to host an annual event and asked the Commissioners for <br />suggestions. She suggested having a pet parade and contest similar to what <br />has been offered in Menlo Park and Los Altos. The Commissioners discussed <br />the matter and Chairperson Joseph agreed to contact Menlo Park and Los <br />Altos for more information on their pet events and will report back at the July <br />meeting. <br /> <br /> <br />, ' , <br />"",""J.::'"~. ,'-, ' ~ <br /> <br />'"'- -. <br /> <br />~~.:.. <br />
