Park & Recreation Commission Minutes of November 28, 2001 ~ Page 2 ITE M 2 - DOWNTOWN AREA PLAN Chairperson Joseph shared a copy of the Downtown Area Plan document with the Commissioners and felt it was well done. She reviewed the document and noted that the project plan recommends open space/parks in the downtown area which would relate to the Commission. Director Centeno noted that the plan was accepted by the Council and will now be referred to the Planning Commission. ITEM 3 - NOMINATION/ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR 2002 Superintendent Hover stated he spoke with the City Clerk's office and confirmed that if the elections are held at the end of the year ,the City's Roster will reflect the correct chairperson and vice chairperson for the following year. Commissioner Davis felt the Commission should continue with its practice of forming a nominating committee consisting of the current and previous chairpersons, who would present the names of the nominees at the next meeting. Chairperson Joseph and Davis will meet and bring the nominations to the December 1 meeting. ITEM 4 - BOARD AND COMMISSION DINNER - DECEMBER 2 Chairperson Joseph reminded the Commissioners of the Boards and Commissions Dinner which will be held on Sunday, December 2 at 5: 30pm at the Fox Theater. Please RSVP to Deanna LaCroix at the City Manager's Office by November 30. ITEM 5 - UPDATES -School Fields Superintendent Hover reported that the grading of Garfield is complete and expected completion date is June/July 2002. He announced that on November 26, the City Council approved the installation of a synthetic sports field surface at Hoover field. A copy of the Council report was provided to the Commissioners. Superintendent Hover stated that staff will be meeting with the consultant on Monday to refine the project scope. The project will go out to bid in mid-February 2002 and the bid should be awarded in mid-March 2002. -Dog Park Superintendent Hover and Chairperson Joseph reported that they attended last night's meeting of the Shore Dogs Group. Superintendent Hover stated that half of the Shore Dogs Park will be converted to decomposed granite and that the Shore Dogs Group would like to donate a portion of the funds for this project.
