The YAB members also will be volunteering at the Pet Parade. <br /> <br />The Commissioners thanked all members of both advisory boards for their <br />presentations and commended them for their work on behalf of the youth <br />and teens in the community. The Commissioners asked the board members <br />to come back to the Park and Recreation Commission at any time if they <br />needed assistance. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - STRATEGIC PLAN REPORT <br /> <br />Commissioner Swope reported that presentations had been made to seven <br />groups and total of 120 questionnaire responses have been collected. She <br />noted that she and Director Centeno would be making a presentation to the <br />Soroptimists tomorrow evening, and that the Recreation Managers would be <br />making presentations to various community groups by the end of April. <br />Commissioner Swope stated the goal is to collect 500 responses, but that we <br />still need to determine how the data will be analyzed. The Commissioners <br />agreed that they would like to see a draft report completed by the end of <br />May. Superintendent Hover suggested that the committee re-group to <br />discuss the current guidelines, <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - RECOMMENDATION TO NAME SKATEPARK AFTER PHIL <br />SHAO <br /> <br />Superintendent Beth prepared a staff report to the Commission which <br />recommended naming the skate park after Phil Shao, a Redwood City <br />resident and skateboarding legend who died in an automobile accident in <br />1998. Superintendent Beth stated the Skate Park Task Force first <br />recommended naming the park after Phil Shao and he was bringing this <br />recommendation to the Commission for their approval. He spoke about Phil <br />Shao's contribution to the world of skateboarding and noted that his mother <br />and family still live in Redwood City. Superintendent Beth said he has <br />spoken to Mrs. Shao who has given her approval of this recommendation. <br />The Commissioners discussed the proposal and asked questions of <br />Superintendent Beth. The fiscal impact would be approximately $1,000 to <br />purchase and install a sign or plaque at the facility. <br /> <br />MIS Truscelli/Swope: To recommend that the skatepark be named <br />after Ph il Shao. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - UPDATES <br /> <br />-Skate Park <br />Superintendent Beth reported that the skate park drawings are 90% <br />complete and the next step will be a March meeting with Community <br />Development staff to discuss project costs.
