A <br />fund raising brick and plaque campaign will begin very soon. <br /> <br />-Maddux Park Dedication <br />Superintendent Hover announced the dedication will take place on Saturday, <br />May 4 at 10:00am. <br /> <br />-Capital Projects <br />Superintendent Hover stated there are no changes on capital projects since <br />his last report. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - PRESENTATION BY HUMAN SERVICES MANAGER TERI CHIN <br /> <br />Human Services Manager Teri Chin spoke about the history of the Fair Oaks <br />Community Center and the many services it provides to the community. She <br />explained the facility was established in 1974 as a joint project between the <br />City of Redwood City and the County of San Mateo and confirmed that <br />funding is still received from both agencies. The Fair Oaks Community <br />Center is a multi-service facility and provides space to more than 30 non- <br />profit service providers. Manager Chin explained what happens in a "typical <br />day" at the Center and spoke about the myriad of services provided to the <br />large number of clients they serve. She also invited the Commissioners to an <br />Open House at Fair Oaks on May 16 from 3: 00-5: OOpm. <br /> <br />ITEM 5 - DISCUSSION OF PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />CALENDAR <br /> <br />There were no updates to the calendar. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover made the following announcements: <br />-Arbor Day is April 26 at 2 :OOpm at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center <br />-Former Department Employee Bert Peralta passed away on April 6. <br />-The 29 diseased eucalyptus trees on Redwood Shores Parkway have been <br />removed. <br />-Director Centeno has requested the Commissioners turn in any comments <br />on the draft strategic plan. <br />-Names of volunteers who were interested in working on a second dog park <br />were collected at the Pet Parade. <br />-Ten applications have been received to fill the vacancies on the Park and <br />Recreation Commission. Applications are due to the City Clerk on April 30. <br />-Superintendent Hover, Chairperson Joseph and Commissioner Walsh <br />attended the CPRS Conference in Los Angeles held earlier this month. <br /> <br />-Superintendent Beth announced that an anonymous person has donated six <br />acres of land to the Town of Woodside for playing fields. The land is located <br />near the CalTrans sub-station on Highway 280 and Farm Hill Blvd. <br /> <br />
