..

..

.

Park and Recreation Commission
Minutes of May 22, 2002

Page 2

June 10,2002. Despite the increased cost, there are funds in the combined
restroom replacement and Skate Park fund to proceed.

Superintendent Beth handed out copies of a skate park jargon sheet and
information on two fund raising events. The first is in conjunction with Chevy's
Restaurant on June 13th where 20% of the proceeds will go to the park, and the
second event, a flyer announcing the availability of bricks and pavers. He
commented on the possibility of a corporate sponsor.

Mr. Beth reviewed the eleven month history of the Skate Park Task Force; the
research completed with other cities and CPRS etc. and introduced Manager
Adilah Haqq..

Ms. Haqq reviewed the rules and regulations developed, and responded to
questions from Commissioners regarding the presence of a phone at the site, the
plan for making sure that other skaters support the rules into the future, issues
with foul balls from the softball fields.

Ms.. Haqq reported the Task Force is recommending that the park be
unsupervised in the belief that skaters can regulate themselves, as do tennis and
basketball players. She further noted that the Task force is recommending that
the facility be unfenced.. The Task Force believes that it would take a 15' fence
to actually keep people out and that would not be visually pleasing. In addition,
they noted that the unfenced facility would be more welcoming..

MIS SwopelTruscelli: To accept and approve the recommendations of the Skate
Park Task Force. Motion passed unanimously.

ITEM 2 - Establish a Task Force to Review the Interim Park Rules at
Stafford Park

Superintendent Hover asked that the Commission establish a task force to
explore the effectiveness of the current interim park rules and make
recommendations to the full Commission. Chairperson Joseph, Vice Chair
Walsh and Commissioner Davis volunteered to serve on the group.
Superintendent Hover will call the first meeting.

Chairperson Joseph asked if the concerts were going to take place in Stafford
Park and whether the Commission wanted to schedule their meeting at the park
in June. It was agreed that Chairperson Joseph would have an informational
table at the park on June 19 and based on the public's reaction, other
Commissioners would be asked to volunteer at future dates.
