. Park and Recreation Commission Minutes of May 22, 2002 Page 3 ITEM 3 - 4th of July Float Chair~erson Joseph received support from the Commission for participating in the 4 t of July Parade. Superintendent Beth noted that the Youth Advisory Committee had expressed interest in participating and would be moving forward with a skate park theme. Commissioner Davis has agreed to complete work on the chassis for the Park and Recreation Commission float. It was agreed that the float would have a Pet Parade theme and announce the date for the next parade. ITEM 4 - Updates Hoover and Gameld Fields - Superintendent Hover shared information on the newspaper coverage and issues surrounding the award of bid for the construction of Hoover Field. He noted it is closed for playas work proceeds. Garfield School field will be dedicated on Wednesday, June 5,2002 starting at 4:30 p.m. with dignitaries, a soccer demonstration and a baseball game at 5:30 p.m. All Commissioners were invited to attend. Superintendent Hover noted that approval from the State for use of their funds for Hoover Field has been received. Spinas Park - Currently awaiting 950/0 drawings, which can be taken back to the neighborhood/commission design committee. Skate Park/Restroom/Concession Stand - This item was covered under Item 1 on this agenda. Windmill Renovation Project. Chairperson Joseph reported that she had made initial contact with John Anagnostou and would be setting up a further meeting to discuss his support of the windmill restoration project. ITEM 5 - Discussion of Parks and Recreation Commission Calendar and Future Events The Maddux Park Grand Opening was well attended and seemed to be enjoyed by al L ANNOUNCEMENTS Vice Chairperson Walsh indicated he would not be able to attend the June meeting as scheduled and Commissioner Swope noted she would also be out of town. The Commission agreed to change their meeting date for June only to Wednesday, June 19th to achieve a quorum.
