She responded to questions and comments from <br />Commissioners. <br /> <br />r <br />~ <br />~~ <br />:: <br />. <br />~ <br />" <br />i" <br />f <br />~ <br />~ <br />, <br />~ <br /> <br />~ . <br />, <br />, <br />, <br />i <br />, <br /> <br />~ <br />f <br />! <br /> <br />Parks - Commissioners Morton, Yapp, Davis and Superintendent Hover <br />Commissioner Yapp reported on the data collected on how Redwood City <br />compares to other peninsula cities with respect to park acreage, the overuse of <br />City fields and the number type and usage of facilities. The group presented <br />conclusions that deal with the need for more land, consideration of more effective <br />use of existing space (artificial turf), and the need to support the ongoing <br />maintenance of these parks and facilities. The Commission discussed the need <br />to present the data in such a way as to elicit the support of Council and other <br />groups as partners in improving the situation. A written report of their findings <br />was distributed for review by the full Commission. <br /> <br />Programs - Chairperson Joseph, Vice Chairperson Walsh and <br />Superintendent Beth <br />Superintendent Beth reported on the data collected and the conclusions of the <br />committee for each of the five program areas (Community Services, Human <br />Services, Sports and Aquatics, Special Interest Classes, Youth and Teen <br />Services) including the need for aquatics expansion, improvements in the <br />management of park usage including a picnic reservation system, the use of <br />technology for online registration and information on programs, support for <br />scholarship programs, support of after school programs, expanded community <br />programming at Fair Oaks Community Center, and the involvement of the <br />community we serve in the development of programming. Copies of their written <br />report were distributed to the full Commission. <br /> <br />:: <br />.:t. <br /> <br />. ~ <br /> <br />The Commission agreed that it was now appropriate for staff to use the <br />information collected in the development of a draft Strategic Plan for Commission <br />review at their January meeting. <br /> <br />
