~

Park and Recreation Commission
Minutes of March 26, 2003

Page 2

\

April 15. Director Centeno requested the Commission form a sub-committee
to review the department's current fees and cost recovery program.
Commissioners Yapp and Davis volunteered to help on this sub-committee
and this matter will be placed on the April agenda.

ITEM 4 - STAFF UPDATES

-Spi nas Pa rk
Superintendent Hover reported that the drawings are still .95% complete and
have been sent back to MIG. He noted he met with the Friendly Acres
Neighborhood Association to provide them with an update on the project.

-Skate Park
Superintendent Beth reported on the successful grand opening of the skate
park on Saturday, March 22 and thanked Chairperson Walsh and
Commissioners Morton, Swope and Truscelli for coming to the event. He
noted that the park has received rave reviews from the skaters and Thrasher
Magazine. He said we have observed a number of skaters not wearing
helmets and protective equipment, as well as a number of bikes in the skate
park. He noted that the Task Force originally wanted no supervision and
unfenced skate park. This also limits the City's liability on the site. Staff is
observing the facility to determine what next steps to take to improve the
situation.

Commissioner Truscelli left the meeting at 8: 35pm due to recent surgery.

-Windmill Restoration
.
