;> .,¡. Park and Recreation Commission Minutes of August 27, 2003 Page 4 -Skate Pa rk Superintendent Beth reported that the skate park is still very popular and that bikes are still a problem. Staff has been working with the Police Department to enforce park rules. Staff has been staggering the times when they observe the park and have also been bringing their skateboards to the park. Superintendent Beth noted that skate board classes, private and semi- private, are being offered in our fall brochure. Assistant Recreation Supervisor Mark Yasuda is looking into the possibility of having a skate competition at the skate park. Superintendent Beth stated that the Police Department did undercover work for one month at the skate park and found no evidence of drug activity. The next meeting of the skate board task force is September 10 at the Red Morton Center. Superintendent Beth said he is getting prices for having an emergency phone installed near the skate park. He also noted that there would be liability issues if the City were to consider operating a BMX bike park. -Fair Oaks School Field Superintendent Hover said the project will be going out to bid very soon and may include the first phase of a lighting component. -Budget Director Centeno announced that we are currently in a "holding pattern" with our budget and should have more information in October. ITEM 5 - P 8l R COMMISSION PARK TOUR AND SOCIAL Commissioners Davis, Joseph, Morton and Truscelli will not be able to make the September 13 date due to conflicts. Superintendent Hover asked all the Commissioners to contact him bye-mail to see if September 20 or 27 would be a better date for this event. The Commissioners stated they would like to include the Redwood Shores lagoons in their park tour. ITEM 7 - DISCUSSION OF PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION CALENDAR The Commissioners were given an updated calendar of events. ANNOUNCEMENTS Superintendent Hover stated that there has been an increase in graffiti in our restrooms. Staff is working to clean up the graffiti immediately and is also working with the Police Department on this matter. Vice Chairperson Yapp will draft a letter to Mrs. Travers regarding her comments to the Commission under Oral Communications. ITEMS FOR NEXT MONTH'S AGENDA -Redwood Shores Lagoons , . . , ! :i'.
