<br />i4 <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of August 27, 2003 <br /> <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - RECAP OF SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAMS <br /> <br />Superintendent Beth reported on the 2003 summer recreation programs <br />including number of enrollees (6,800 this year compared to 7,100 last year); <br />increase in revenue ($563,780 this year compared to $483,000 last year); <br />and that for FY02-03 the department broken even. <br /> <br />Sports and Aquatics: <br />110 sports teams - #1 on Peninsula <br />1,200 swim lessons (compared to 1,273 last year) <br />$11,000 collected in drop-in fees <br />500 kids participate in PAL & ADAL League <br />16 teams (250 girls) participated in Peppermint Patty Softball League <br /> <br />Recreation Manager Adilah Haqq spoke about the programs in the Youth and <br />Teen Division and reviewed the following statistics: <br />-6 After School Programs funded by two grants - 400 kids per day <br />-Day Camp at Stulsaft Park - very popular, attendance increased <br />-Kids Klub program was at capacity aU 7 weeks, last year 3/4 full <br />-Teen Adventure Weeks - at capacity <br />-Three playground programs <br />-Redwood Shores Camp - 35 kids per day <br />-My First Camp - 15-20 kids per day <br />-Teen Center - 45 kids per day <br />Which means - 750 kids per day were involved in our programs - not <br />including the camps which were contracted out to other vendors <br /> <br />Manager Haqq also spoke about the department's Leader in Training Program <br />(LIT) and presented a Power Point presentation with pictures of the various <br />programs and participants. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE AND TIMELINE <br /> <br />Superintendent Hover stated that a draft strategic plan was developed but <br />that staff felt they needed assistance in putting the plan together. Staff met <br />with a representative from MIG who will be putting together a proposal for <br />this project. Staff felt that with the assistance of MIG, they would be ready <br />to distribute the final draft plan on October 15 and this item would be <br />discussed at the October meeting.
