<br />I <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of October 27, 2004 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Commissioner White arrived at 7:35 p.m. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - Presentation from Human Services Manager, T eri Chin <br />Ms. Chin made an oral presentation to the Commission on activities at the Fair <br />Oaks Community Center sharing portions of coverage on Spanish language <br />television, as well as a newspaper article and the commemorative booklet for the <br />30th Anniversary Celebration. She commented on the recent Bi-national Health' <br />Fair and Mobile Consulate, her meeting with the 15 agencies providing holiday <br />assistance programs, as well as statistical information on the more than 100,000 <br />visits to the center on an annual basis and the 2,600 households assisted <br />through the Information and Referral Program. She responded to questions <br />regarding the issue of the ability of the undocumented to get drivers licenses, <br />how the Center worked with the Department of Social Services, how to volunteer, <br />what percentage of clients could actually be helped and her tenure at the Center. <br />Director Centeno commended Ms. Chin for her success at involving many <br />community organizations in the activities of the center. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - Presentation on Courthouse Plaza Project <br /> <br />Redevelopment Manager Susan Moeller introduced Downtown Coordinator Dan <br />lack. Mr. lack, supported with a Power Point presentation, provided the <br />Commission with an overview of why efforts to redevelop the Downtown were <br />important, a history of what has and has not been done to date, the development <br />of the precise plan for Downtown, the Cinema Project, Theater Way and the <br />conceptual design for the Courthouse Plaza. Mr. lack and Ms. Moeller <br />responded to questions. Chairperson Yapp communicated the thanks of the <br />Commission for the presentation. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - Bi.annual Approval of Building Rental Rates <br /> <br />Superintendent Beth presented information collected from a survey of other cities <br />and his recommendation that no change in rental fees be implemented. <br /> <br />MIS SwopelTruscelli: To accept staff recommendation to make no changes <br />to the rental fee schedule. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - Annual Report Transmittal and Set Retreat Date <br /> <br />Director Centeno noted that the presentation of an annual report on activities of <br />the Department for the prior Fiscal Year in October was part of the plan update <br />cycle identified in the Strategic Plan. Ms. Centeno asked for direction from the <br />Commission as to when discussion of the report should be brought before the <br />Commission. It was the consensus of the Commission that the report be part of <br />the discussion at the Commission retreat scheduled for Saturday, November 13, <br />
