<br />j <br /> <br />-- <br />Park and Recreation Commission <br />Minutes of January 19, 2005 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />The Commissioners asked questions of Superintendent Mann regarding the <br />condition and location of the tree, historical data of sewer lines at 1560 Palm <br />Avenue and other technical issues. <br /> <br />M/S Joseph/Swope: That the Commission denied the appeal of the <br />heritage tree permit at 1491 Sierra Street. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Superintendent Mann advised Ms. Nicolosi that he would be sending her a <br />follow up letter and that she could appeal the permit to City Council. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - PRESENTATION BY REDWOOD CITY AMERICAN LITTLE <br />LEAGUE REGARDING APPROVAL OF BATTING CAGE AT HOOVER PARK <br /> <br />Francisco Robles and Sonny Delapena of the Redwood City American Little <br />league (RCALL) spoke about the league's request to install a batting cage at <br />Hoover Park. Based on questions that the Commission had at the November <br />meeting, Mr. Robles prepared a packet of information for the Commissioners <br />addressing their previous concerns and questions. The packet included a <br />letter of support from Hoover School Principal Josh Griffith, information on <br />the contractor handling the project, a site diagram, and Little League rules to <br />be installed on main door of batting cage. Mr. Robles also confirmed that <br />RCALL would be responsible for maintenance of the batting cage. <br />Superintendent Chris Beth stated the City would issue revocable permits for <br />use of the facility and scheduling. <br /> <br />Vice Chairperson Morton and Commissioner Joseph requested that the RCALL <br />obtain the approval of the property owners on Charter Street of the batting <br />cage installation and Mr. Robles agreed to that request. <br /> <br />M/S Truscelli/Morton: To accept the proposal from Redwood City <br />American Little League to install a batting cage at Hoover Park. <br /> <br />Motion amended to read: To accept the proposal from Redwood City <br />American Little League to install a batting cage at Hoover Park, with <br />the stipulation that they provide sufficient approval from the Charter <br />Street neighborhood and that staff provide a draft revocable permit <br />for Com mission review. <br />Motion and amended motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The Commissioners thanked Mr. Robles and Mr. Delapena for improving the <br />site for the community. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF DEPARTMENT ANNUAL REPORT <br /> <br />Director Centeno thanked Superintendents Beth and Hover and Recreation <br />Manager Jordana Freeman for their work on the Department's Annual Report. <br />She was proud of the results and asked the Commission for their approval for <br /> <br />
