<br /> <br />October 24, 2005 <br /> <br />Subject <br />Comprehensive Street Tree Maintenance Project (Five Years) <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />(1) By Motion, approve the contract documents and accept the low bid of $ 330,125.00 <br />from The Professional Tree Care Company, of Berkeley, CA. <br />(2) By Motion, award the total not-to-exceed amount of the contract for the <br />Comprehensive Street Tree Maintenance Project in the amount of $218,595.00 for <br />Fiscal Year 2005-2006, and the adopted budgeted amounts for the subsequent four <br />fiscal years to The Professional Tree Care Company, of Berkeley, CA. <br />(3) By Motion, reject all other bids. <br /> <br />Background <br />On August 31, 2005 staff sent the contract documents and specifications for the subject <br />contract to ten tree maintenance firms. The proposed unit-priced contract has been duly <br />advertised and two sealed bids were received and opened at the Office of the City Clerk on <br />September 21 , 2005. <br /> <br />BIDDER <br /> <br />PRICE <br /> <br />Staff Estimate: <br />Average bid: <br /> <br />$330,125.00 <br />$379,490.00 <br /> <br />$313,600.00 <br />$354,807.50 <br /> <br />The Professional Tree Care Co., Berkeley, CA <br />West Coast Arborists, Anaheim, CA <br /> <br />The Professional Tree Care Company is the lowest responsible bidder at 5% above the <br />staff estimate. The Professional Tree Care Company performed the City's contract tree <br />maintenance from September 2001 through June 2005, and staff is confident they have <br />the necessary resources and will perform the contract in accordance with specifications, <br />standards, and safety regulations. <br /> <br />The agreement provides street tree maintenance services forthe City supplying one three- <br />person crew for up to a complete year for street tree maintenance services. A second crew <br />may be scheduled as funds are available. Emergency services, tree planting, stump <br />removal, and pest control services as needed are also included in the agreement. <br /> <br />The agreement duration covers a five-year period, through August 31,2010, allowing the <br />City, each consecutive year, to adjust the quantities based on adopted budget, and unit <br />prices based on the Consumer Price Index (5% cap) for San Francisco/San Jose/Oakland. <br /> <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />
